Johnny T (ru) wrote: December Boys bathes in the summer sun and sea breezes even as it exudes the energy of youth and promise. The cinematography by David Connell is grand and beautiful, with magnificent locations in Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. The performances are strong all around. Cormie really deserves the star billing he's denied, but Radcliffe certainly acquits himself competently as an awkward teenager in the throes of first love. Thompson is believably noble as an elderly husband who cannot stop the advance of the disease that is taking his wife from him, bit by bit, every day. And McQuade is heartbreaking no matter how lame the dialogue she's given in Mark Rosenberg's screenplay. Third-rate special effects notwithstanding, spirituality is one of the central themes of "December Boys," or, more correctly, faith, not just in divine power, but in our fellow man. Though familiar as an old shoe, this is straightforward and well told... VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)

Tero H (it) wrote: Surfing history lesson, and a very fine one. Manages to keep one interested despite being most of all history, which is by itself quite an achievement, and also allows one to see great surfing. Introducing legendary surfers of both old and new generation, this movie allows one to have a reasonably well-balanced view on the history of surfing. Things get more interesting toward the end of the movie, as waimea, modern-day surfing, slingshot surfing, Laird Hamilton, maverick, tow-in-surfing and teahupoo are brought into the view. Nice, and sure you'll enjoy this surfing history film if you're into surfing

Regina R (kr) wrote: Two young sisters who grew up extremely close to each other, drift apart as they get into adulthood. Both are excellent musicians, and there is jealousy between them. It is the younger sister, a cellist, who becomes the most popular with audiences, and her popularity and her driving musical genius causes her to become obsessed with music. The older sister settles down and raises a family. Her music as a flautist is important to her, but not all consuming. Things between them really develop into a horrific situation when the younger sister wants permission to sleep with her sister's husband. Of course this causes tensions between all of them, as the husband 'serves' two sisters in bed. The younger one who is sinking into mental illness finally contracts MS, and increasingly loses her ability to do anything, she becomes violent in her helplessness. Strangely enough, this actually brings the two sisters close to each other once again. This is a very good movie, well done all around.

Hugo G (us) wrote: This movie was so heartbreaking and riveting, but at the same time it was very funny too thanks to Heather Matarazzo's terrific performance and Todd Solondz's script and vision. The mixture of dark humor and cruelty, really showed cased what bullying and being an outcast is all about in today's society, and how Dawn's character is simply a victim of the circumstances. I was really surprised at how impactful the movie was despite its mixture of genres, but it really worked and ended up being a beautiful movie of a very horrid reality. Also, all of the cast was really good, but mainly the younger ones were outstanding and really carried the whole movie. Mainly Heather Matarazzo as the lead who gave an incredibly natural and mesmerizing performance, but also Brendan Sexton III, was outstanding in his character. Overall, the movie was excellent and kind of timeless, and simply one of those gems of film that really showcase how powerful and amazing independent films can be.~November 6, 2014~

Stephanie P (us) wrote: One of my top five movies. It is a rollercoaster of emotions from gleeful delight in justice being served to heartbreaking sadness in this one man's love for a little girl. I do not understand stand the negativity as it felt possible that one man could accomplish this unlike the overdone dramatics of many revenge movies.

Mike C (gb) wrote: Whether you're a Christmas or Halloween fan, "Corpse Bride" as directed by Tim Burton (2005) is the movie for you. I loved this movie when I first saw it as a child, and was hesitant to view it again as an adult, however this film was far deeper and more profound than any child could have seen. As a depiction of the classic Faustian Bargain, "Corpse Bride" deals with disheartening dilemmas such as families throwing away their children for the pursuit of money, and throwing away one's life for the sake of love (what is this, "Romeo and Juliet?"). As Victor, a real ladies man, bounces from woman to woman, struggling to find love, a wild roller coaster of emotion followed this film. When Victoria is freed from her marriage thanks to Lord Barcroft's arrogance, Emily soon turns to a kaleidoscope of butterflies and consequently frees Victor. So the pair came out victorious and were finally able to be together. If Emily could watch this film, I'm sure she would say "Isn't this beautiful. It takes my breath away. Well, it would if I had any."
