(ag) wrote: Underrated but overblown musical is Coppola's most visually arresting film. Filmed entirely on the director's own soundstage, the movie creates an incredible, dreamlike vision of the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding environs that is something we are likely not going to see ever again in the CGI-obsessed Hollywood of the 21st century. Despite the vivid playground that Copoola has created and the Oscar-nominated Tom Waits songs that haunt its streets, there isn't nearly enough story or drama to make this a truly great movie. The cost of the film ballooned during production from $2 million to $25 million and eventually flopped at the box office, prompting Coppola to declare bankruptcy shortly after production finished.
(de) wrote: Although the CGI is dull and the 3 hours and 7 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes with extended version) are time consuming, the stories drive and characters make Peter Jackson's King Kong a great reboot.
(es) wrote: How to live when the memory is gone? Write down notes that you follow practically blindly. The story runs backward to reveal itself. Like a maize, bits are revealed and the thread holds and turns and twist until we arrive at an explanation. Strange film but it works!
