Stripped of hedonistic gloss, this is the seedy side of Thailand, featuring drugs, prostitution, homelessness and child labour. Amid that backdrop is a clever, low-fi thriller and an interesting look at how our actions can affect those who we think are not connected to us.
Dimitrios Z (kr) wrote: The movie makes little sense. If it only takes one alien in the water supply to invade Earth then why did the aliens wait until they crash landed to do it? And why did one of the characters try to pick up toothpicks when doing so would put his life in infinitely more peril? The movie had potential, but too many plot holes like these make the movie a stinker.

Lauren V (kr) wrote: pretentious. a movie for people to brag to their friends about having seen. It's 500 days of Summer for deeply cynical people; for people who hate LA. Justin Long as the awkward and insufferable Dell may have some pretty witty lines but on the whole he's off putting. I spent most of the movie wondering when I would root for him. The only time I liked his character was the scene where he woos Kimberly in front of her date. I appreciated that glimpse into the bystander who is forced to sit through a vapid and soul crushing conversations of the assholes behind them while waiting in line. Other than that show of intellectual bravado, I had no reason to like Dell. The entire movie he is a whiney, selfish man child. Perhaps that was the point, but i didnt find Rossum's Kimberly very enthralling either. Does she have a personality? She just wittily replies to Dell's lines. I get that she's cute and probably quirky (this is the ultimate hipster movie, after all) but why am I suppose to like her? She doesnt give me a reason to hate her, either, which makes her equally infuriating. It feels like Dell uses her as a prop. Of course, the film isnt without its merits. It is visually stunning. The non-linear storytelling is kind of fun and of course everyone in the film is easy on the eyes. (Caveat the poor girl accompanying Dell in the very beginning) Maybe its because Im a fan of Portlandia and Long bears a striking resemblance to Fred Armisen, but I expected more of a dynamic character. Instead, I get a pretentious man child who pontificates away at why everything is wrong instead of trying to grow himself. Maybe thats whats wrong with this generation

By this time Connery had played in six Bond films and it just kinda was starting to wear thin. The movie takes place after the events of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) Bond seeks out Blofeld and thinks he kills him. 007 then is tasked with finding out who is buying all the worlds diamonds after a number of 00 Agents and Government officials are murdered. Lo and behold Blofeld (Charles Gray) is behind it all using the diamonds to create another crazy take over the world scheme. The film follows the basic Bond formula up into this time. There's the main villain, but also his two henchmen that are super creepy Mr. Kidd (Putter Smith) and Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover), the Bond girl is a diamond smuggler named Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) who has some large attributes! The movie has arguably one of the best theme songs though and it sets the stage for a pretty decent final Bond film for Connery. It get's very campy especially near the end, but I will say the plot is pretty well done overall and easy to follow regardless of how silly it really is. Not Connery's best, but definitely not the worst 007 film in my opinion.
