Simon T (fr) wrote: The problem with Ken Loach's much lauded film is that it ticks all the boxes, revisits his usual territory, occupies the moral high ground - but never allows for anything quirky or contentious or genuinely challenging. This is filmmaking as virtue signalling, and that's a real shame from the man who gave us the ambiguous subtleties of Kes and Raining Stones.

Wes S (jp) wrote: It's a fine idea, but the film isn't executed well enough for it to be thrilling. I didn't like any of the characters, so the ending didn't effect me much. It ends, of course, the way you would expect it to. Overall, if it wasn't for the dumb characters and dull moments, it would be a good little atomic threat film.

And what could be more thrilling than a knife fight? What about if ya give 'em big knives? And lo, the swashbuckler is born.In this one Tyrone Power (the weakest link here, w/o the dash the role requires), a common, drunken pirate, battles for the reluctant heart of Maureen O'Hara, a fancy Miss Pris lady against a whole slew of dirty, pirating types. George Sanders (the best thing in the movie), Anthony Quinn and Thomas Mitchell lend able, reliable yet unsung support.Big-time old school fun.
