(it) wrote: "Violeta Went to Heaven" is an expressive biopic about the life and music of Violeta Parra(Francisca Gavilan), a beloved and renowned folk singer in her native Chile. Like many minority artists, the wealthy enjoyed listening to her music before banishing her to the kitchen. She would also have some of her artwork shown in the Louvre.Framed by a television interview that is more interested in her political leanings than anything else, especially if she is a Communist(she performed in then Communist Poland and was friends with Pablo Neruda), the movie is just as interested in the divisions in her life, starting with her being of mixed heritage.(At one point, Violeta says that she wishes she were entirely of Indian heritage.) After briefly exploring Violeta's origins in poverty, the movie jumps ahead to her tumultuous second marriage to Gilbert Favre(Thomas Durand).

(ca) wrote: The story is incredible, the production and direction are amazingly good and the performances (mainly by Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga) are great. It call counts to make Source Code a remarkable sci-fi thriller.

(kr) wrote: I love the movie, it's brilliantly cast, and the set pieces are great too. I like that it's closer to the source material, but it loses its charm towards the end, and I think Johnny Depp (although he's a great actor) isn't the best person for the part of Willy Wonka. Still a great movie and I'll defiantly watch it again.
(jp) wrote: A world where goodness, righteousness and foulness all get mixed into one: a tale with the makings of the real world. Albeit with some martial feats that are easily deemed outerworldly.
(nl) wrote: Starts off with a boy being possessed by "he who walks behind the rows" from a corn field fire in Divinity Falls. A year later, six friends fight for their lives from the children in the town. Not very good but at least Fred Williamson is in it.
(kr) wrote: A nonsensical and unique comedy that harmlessly pokes fun at American and Canadian stereotypes. I actually found it funny and even prefer this to Michael Moore's documentaries. (First and only viewing - 10/7/2008)

(gb) wrote: The theme of the movie: a bad trip in San Francisco. But I had to see it for the crazy cast and to see Groucho smoking pumpkin. Also the first film I have seen where they sing the credits.
(us) wrote: Tuesday, July 3, 2012 (2006) Second In Command ACTION Low budget straight to rental movie starring Jean Claude Van Damme as US Commander Samuel 'Sam' Keenan who just happens to visit a foreign country and has just been appointed 'second in command' when a violent militia held by an ex- president making attempts to overthrow the current gov't by bringing back anti- American 'Cold War' roots like to it's people! Commander Keenan first instructed to protect and escort current gov't from his current place to the US Embassy safely, he succeeds but protestors are killed in the process ordered to use extremly violent tactics, even if it means killing innocent civilians to execute the current leader for something that he didn't have anything to do with. The less Van Damme speaks the better his movies are because this has some of the worst acting thoughout his whole acting carrer. Totally unconvincing as a US commander with plenty of bad acting throughout the cast almost makes this film almost unbearable to watch. The action is dismissable at best resuing the same people over and over again, and then conveniently setting the movie up to showcase Van Damme doing things which is a million to one to be in the situation in the first place which consists of a few lame-oh fights and unimpressive gun fights close to a home made movie without the lighting. 1 out of 4
