(br) wrote: I'm going to disagree with some of the reviews I've read. I think, I believe, this film is very meaningful. It's poetic in what it portrays but also very bleek. So much in-fact, it's almost depressing. That's not to say there aren't a few joyful moments in the film, it's definitely a harsh reality as-well as an insightful way to express the issues that flood today's educational system in America. But it's much more then that, which is what I like the most about the film. It's an entire metaphor about life, it's ups and downs, how it effects everyone differently and how each individual person copes. It's symbolic in how it expresses that there is hope for those who struggle long enough to find it, if you've yet to lose yourself. If your deep into indie dramas, I say this is a good pick. Be warned, it's gloomy.
(es) wrote: Apparently James Franco directed and co-wrote this film, in which he also plays the lead part. It is an impressive debut. Franco first came to my attention as an actor as part of the ensemble in the short lived but brilliant TV series Freaks and Geeks. Franco gave his character depth. The talent behind and in front of the camera in that series went on to big things. Franco has been in major blockbusters and in small films where he could really shine as an actor. In this he not only turns in another complex on-screen characterization, but he reveals great promise as a director and screenwriter, too. Check it out! It may be playing in festivals and art houses, but on DVD you have to go to Blockbuster where it is an exclusive.
(es) wrote: This one of the worst Jingle Ma movie's and definately far worst than the first show despite how the movie manages to gather so many Hong Kong superstars. In comparison with the previous, the characters acting are too fake and all of them looks like they are just reading their script. As much as I like Shu Qi and Richie Jen, they both looks and sounds awful in the movie. Being an action comedy movie, the action totally sucks and seriously, the movie wouldn't make it if it wasn't for Tony Leung and of course, riding over the success of the previous installment... Tokyo Raiders.

(jp) wrote: This film bothers me. It took me a while to get into the characters, they are rather unique. The story is interesting. The main character is very well written. I guess it is good, since I am still thinking with the choices they make. Not perfect, but very intriguing.
(ag) wrote: Ginger Snaps is another fantastic werewolf movie. The 2 leading actresses are and I cant stress this enough excellent and perfect in their roles. I cant see anyone else playing these characters. The films setting is perfect being set in a small town thats has a werewolf lurking in its shadows. The design of the creature is excellent. Its not the usual biped werewolf but instead is on all 4s. Its massive and fleshy and disgusting. The practical effects are fantastic and the design is great. The movies overall story is also really interesting. The whole film is basically a huge metaphor for puberty as they show puberty of a female through a story of going through the phases of transforming into a werewolf which is excellent and handled very well. I cant stress enough how great this move is. Its one of the best werewolf movies out there.

My next look at Sidaris' work comes in the form of Hard Hunted, which reeks of 1980's excess, but was actually released in 1992. I would consider this one of his lesser works in terms of unintentional entertainment, i.e. funny. It doesn't deliver the goods as often as you'd want. It does have some stuff to make you laugh out loud, but not nearly enough. I nearly fell asleep on it, and I usually don't do that on Andy Sidaris' movies. It's also got Cynthia's Brimhall's beautiful chest in it, so there's that. Check it out for the reasons that I mentioned, but if you're a fan of Andy Sidaris in an ironic way like me, then you might be disappointed with this one.
