Lee M (ag) wrote: The banality of evil is examined in this solid and intelligent account of Arendt's controversial conclusions on the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Like "A Dangerous Method", David Cronenberg's drama about Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, "Hannah Arendt" takes seriously the life of the mind.

Gilbert M (fr) wrote: I really want to see this film. Castro is a great role model (never let anyone own you, always fight for what you believe in)

RiP M (de) wrote: Possibly the worst bits of MI-5 spliced together into a series of outtakes and presented as a cohesive narrative. Grim, earnest, unpleasant.

Doctor S (au) wrote: "Haven't you heard the expression that a picture is worth a thousand words?""That's for people like you who don't know a thousand words."Ambitious newswoman (Jolie) is told by a street prophet (Shalhoub) during a local color interview that she will die in 7 days. Shaken, she reluctantly turns to easygoing smartass cameraman (Burns) for advice and comfort. Poorly executed, both as a story of a person reassessing her life to discover what's important, and as a romantic comedy which is short on comedy and some of the most unromantic dialogue you will ever hear, bickering and bargaining about "having sex" like it's an object as mundane as a bag of potato chips. The blame lies mostly within the screenplay because the stars try to sell it, but there's not enough substance. So inert is the soul of this movie that it couldn't even inspire a halfway decent poster, resulting in conceptual designs as flat as the paper they're printed on.Here's a rare chance to see Jolie as a blond, I think she looks weird with those bouffant goldilocks but underneath she's as radiant as ever. In fact the camera pushes in so close that you may notice for the first time a small indentation in the skin on her right cheek. Edward Burns starts out boorish but develops a little charm along the way, although his high school drama instructor should've shitcanned that raspy whisper he calls a speaking voice.

Constantin R (nl) wrote: The movie brings a lot of good issues. The main themes are racism, rape, the lost innocence and the women social position. The Young One try to destroy the American dream, showing a mirror. The actors are great, especially the girl who is perfect for her role. My favorite scene is where Traver play on his clarinet, the girl is dancing aroung him and Miller will trow the grenade.

Ken S (br) wrote: Stanley Kubrick made his feature film debut with this picture, which he later deemed to be awful. The film's distributor went out of business, and Kubrick did his best to buy up every remaining print of the film in order to ensure it never got seen. I disagree with this action, don't rewrite history, even your own, to preserve your legacy, just say " I think that kinda stinks now". Luckily, he didn't entirely succeed, and the film has mostly survived through bootleg, but has recently been restored and will be officially released on home video. So how is the actual movie? It isn't that bad actually. It isn't the best movie I've seen, and not even really one of Kubrick's best works, but there is some quality stuff hidden in here. The sound was recorded way later, so its got some bad dubbing. It is okay, nothing incredible, but not really "banish it from history" bad.

Chris B (fr) wrote: This continues the story of Harry Potter and is a better than the first two films. It has a darker tone and is more character centered. It is not as kid friendly as the other two. The acting is better as the actors continue to get older. The special effects and music are great. A lot of the new characters are great and you really root for them. A lot of good twists and turns as well. A great installment into the Harry Potter franchise.

Wiebke K (br) wrote: The only interesting thing about this movie is the Spanish Civil War back drop -- the two parallel lives are just a little too simplistic.
