Charles M (fr) wrote: This was a well-written and acted movie, but I found it to be a real downer. I was expecting this to be an uplifting film, but the ending left me disappointed.

Sean D (it) wrote: This movie was way too dramatic to be a comedy. actually, there was nothing funny in this at all. They were right in comapring it to Peggy Sue Got Married...but 16 Candles? That's an insult to John Hughes. Another film that just wastes time.

gustavmarkovic31 (ca) wrote: its a ropey drama. the actress/actor are okay, but wooden. kate hudson and joan cusack give fine performances, but don't bring the film to life. hayden patteniere as the teenaged orphan is better than expected. as she is in racing stripes also. and to those who care or are interested, she was the voice of Dot in A Bugs Life, pixar's 1998 animated movie. but yeah, raising helen was dull, a bit dragged out, and over-sentimental.

Lester F (ca) wrote: Overall a decent movie. It has pacing issues and lack of development, but it interesting and the acting is good for what it is. This movie is definitely a one time watch, but that doesn't mean it is a bad watch.

Stefan L (jp) wrote: first and foremost roth is evrything about this film, utterly terrifying as too-smart-for-his-own-good racist trevor, raging against a sytem he feels compelled to rage against. yet more gritty stuff from clarke, a director im yet to see a film of and not like in some form. also interesting to hear the sound bites used in uk hip hop album council estate of the mind by skinnyman 'they dont like me down there harry, they'll roll me up in a matress and they'll boot me.'

They are surrounded by local Indians and the Spanish that have little regard for the Mexican natives. The people of Mexico need a purpose for survival and they hope to find it in a priest. A local bandit kills the priest leaving the people to believe the desperado is a priest. The desperado reluctantly leads the people to hope and a reason for survival. "A man goes from the place he is born to the place he dies." Henri Verneuil, director of Body of my Enemy, Mother, A Monkey in Winter, The 25th Hour, The Cow and I, The Lions are Loose, and A Kiss for a Killer, delivers Guns of San Sebastian. The storyline for this picture is interesting and fairly standard for the western genre. The action scenes and settings were really well presented and the acting is above average. The cast includes Anthony Quinn, Charles Bronson, Anjanette Comer, and Leon Askin. "I'm hot, I'm thirst, and I'm stupid to be here." Guns of San Sebastian was another Charles Bronson picture we came across while searching for movies to DVR. The western genre was very kind to Bronson and probably his best overall class of films. The action scenes were excellent in this picture and I really loved the characters; unfortunately, the plot isn't overly original and the story is just average. This western is definitely worth your time. "It is the duty of your priest to save your soul." Grade: B-
