Vincent S (mx) wrote: A huge question about 'And So It Goes'. How can you give Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, in a romantic comedy, such a pedestrian, dumb screenplay?

Nathan M (kr) wrote: A film that tries too much, but is an admirable effort and mostly works. This may be the best performance by Clive Owen in a film yet. It's a layered performance that brings the character to life in a way that most romantic comedies don't ever touch. Also, it's his best American accent to date. Binoche is also pretty great. She seemed to struggle a little with the comedic beats, but her portrayal of a woman struggling with a disease that inhibits her ability to participate in her passion was pretty wonderful. The film itself is very interesting, right up to the 75 minute mark. It felt like the film starting adding some subplots that weren't necessary, and then the film feels like it goes on about 25 minutes too long. Had this been a 90 minute film that was solely about these two characters overcoming their struggles it might have been better. Or if it had been about these two teachers inspiring their students, that would have also been better. Or if the script had a few more drafts under its belt all of the ideas would have been better serviced. But in the end, it's still a pretty interesting film that has some really solid moments within. Many of the characters are really well-constructed and you begin to really care about them. It's not a perfect film, but it's one of the best romantic comedies I've seen in recent years.

Jim H (mx) wrote: A carpenter resists having an affair with his son's schoolteacher.Mademoiselle Chambon features strong performances by Sandrine Kiberlain and Vincent Lindon as the two lead characters. Their characters are built on silence and subtle looks that make them fun to watch. The film's plot is meandering, taking far too long to get from point A to point B with few complications in between. It's slow, but it's slow in a way that I've grown accustomed to in modern French cinema. What is more, I'm not sure what the film is saying. Is it merely privileging a content marriage with a passionate affair? If so, such an aphorism has been said often and with greater effect.Overall, Mademoiselle Chambon has strong performances, but the story is lacking in clarity and dimension.

Koh M (us) wrote: disturbing, intense, beautiful. feels like one of more accesible haneke films. a masterpiece.

Greg B (fr) wrote: Very strange but also funny. Couldn't imagine this starring anybody else but Spenny!

Oliver N (ag) wrote: I can't seem to understand why audiences didn't like this excellent adaptation by Spielberg. With brilliant special effects- even by today's standards- and good performances all round, War of the Worlds will be remembered is one of the last great robot apocalypse movies.Verdict: B+

Justin M (mx) wrote: I had no idea! The Funk Bros. are musical gods. And nobody knows the real story. All the songs my elders played on the radio. Temptations, The 4 Tops, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, etc. Even the new R&B and Hip-Hop still sampling from these guys. Almost a shame. None the less, this documentary was an awesome watch for the musical history and performances. Seeing that these old guys still got the groove. But some of the stylistic choices in the filming were a bit tacky and or experimental for the worse. All that being said, good music is good music!

Cedric L (gb) wrote: Works from the palpable chemistry and simple but elegant premise.

Cassandra M (br) wrote: This is not "so bad that it is good," it is purely good! For those who don't understand why, you have the intellect of a four year old (in response to a certain comment...) Anyways, Killer Tomatoes Eat France is a parody of itself, a parody of you, and a parody of me. It is the single most genius text in cinematic history. I have it and the three prequels sitting on my DVD rack next to Herzog and Kurosawa. It embodies the recognition of absurdity and undermines all that you or me call standard. I write scripts and this movie single-handedly opened up a genre of comedy for me, the likes of which we have never seen. It can only be taken in portions... its sort of exploitive... by now I'm just trying to take up the ten line minimum. My comment ended a while ago. Hopefully it works when I submit it now.

Thomas B (br) wrote: 1/2*What a piece of absolute horse shit. What an abysmal, offensive, grotesque piece of crap, that, to add insult to injury, is filmed in the worst way possible - found footage. That half star is for Gyllenhaal. The rest of this movie can go fuck itself.

Gautham R (us) wrote: I think more than a testament to the well known real life event, this is a testament to how mature and talented Ryan Coogler was even coming out of film school. A lot of people at his level would make style-over-substance flicks emulating a certain director or writer. But I can already tell that he's got his own distinct style. It makes sense that he made Creed just as impeccably as this.
