Makes you realize that there used to be days when there were men whose passion was playing for country and playing for the people and color they represent. 15 years this team dominated!! Will there be another era like this ever? I don't think so.

For a chick flick that borders on women-empowerment themes, it felt pretty shallow & belittling. But I aint a chick so what would I know right.

Based on the novel of the same name.IS IT ANY GOOD?Before Facebook, you may recall, one might sit through literal slide-shows (projected onto a sheet, for example) in order to experience a friend's vacation. This film feels like sitting through such an evening, if your friend were self-indulgent and a bit narcissistic, kept bringing up her broken marriage and her justifications for a fling during the slideshow, gabbed on and on about the wonderful people she met as if you knew them, and took way too long to show her admittedly scenic slides. As someone who enjoys glimpses into world cultures/religions, good actors, and romance in general, I'll admit that there were a few moments that charmed, enlightened, and moved me. But this sluggishly-paced movie feels a good 45 minutes longer than its 2 hour and 15 minute running time. This is to say nothing of its repetitive narrative structure, general predictability, and disturbing core message: You can find peace through avoidance of accountability and by literally coming to see yourself as your own god. It's all about "love yourself" and "forgive yourself," which is fine, but the protagonist takes no responsibility for what she does to hurt other people early on. Julia Roberts is likable, but her character here mostly is not. This is not a film I'd revisit.IS IT OKAY FOR YOUR KIDS?Eat Pray Love is rated PG-13. It has a fair amount of foul language (including one use of the phrase "mother--," which I thought was only allowed in R-rated films), sexual innuendo, male rear nudity, and implications of adultery and other sex outside of marriage.ANY WORTHWHILE MESSAGES?It is not enough to life for self-fulfillment; one must live to benefit others. Take time to enjoy and savor life.

Tyler S (ru) wrote: Pretty solid flick fueled by excellent performances by the leads. Set in Russia Harrleson and his wife while on a train befriend a couple. Something is suspicious about them right away, but you cant put your finger on it. Basically once they befriend the couple things go horribly wrong. This movie leaves you on the edge wondering what will happen next. Not really that predictable, and the acting is top notch and totally sold me.

Lots of shameless Wire work and Coolio's stunt "double" is at least 20kg lighter than he is!Speaking of Coolio... he wasn't born an actor...

Sylvester K (mx) wrote: I began viewing with very little expectation, the title card seemed quite flimsy and cheap. But I was completely blown away by how fantastic this film was. The story itself symbolized freedom of a refugee who escaped East Germany and came to America to start his own band. The musical numbers were quite catchy and well sung. The acting was perfect from Mitchell. Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the next cult movie after Rocky Horror Picture Show.

This seems like a meditation on Hollywood itself, with multiple personalities possessing people as they attempt to get through the slime and sleeze of LA. I do love films that excoriate LA, and this one is no exception. I still find the gratuitous male gaze that exposes his female actresses to be off-putting, but at least here the women are in control of their sex/ sexuality.

Tyler B (it) wrote: I have had a lifetime of hype for this movie, as I seen tons of previews and ads for this on VHS back in the day, so I always wondered how it was. So after years of waiting I checked it out not expecting much but it was surprisingly good. It was a late 80's/1990 Bohemian version of a Rom-Com and it was a unique little film. A lot of people hate this movie because of Gerard Depardieu calling him "Ugly and Nasty" but I found the guy to be extremely likeable and rootable, even a force of nature in a few scenes. No wonder he won the Golden Globe for this, he was good. Andie McDowell also gave one of better performances in this movie, as well as Bebe Neuwirth, best known as Mrs. Frazier. The directing was solid and the music was different than most films, not popular music of the time but new age type stuff (ex: Enya). I Recommend this film easily, even if your like me and not a fan of Rom-Com's it is an enjoyable little flick.
