Aidan H (mx) wrote: It's hard to believe this washed-out piece of lint was written by the guy who wrote the Sopranos (although it covers much of the same kind of territory). Like a tragically unfunny Judd Apatow satire about wiseguys, this treads every sub-Goodfellas cliche but lowers the volume to 3. It doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind: one minute wishing its protagonist and narrator a safe passage via study out of the hell-hole of Brooklyn while lauding said hell-hole for its presumably inate 'realness'. Despite using the real-life tale of Jon Gotti as a background, little of his rise to power interrupts the Brooklyn trio's endless bouts of macho, lip-trembling bonhomie, pointless mini-explosions of male rage and ineffective potty talk except for the bit where two random guys rush up and pop a cap in a Baldwin bro. To add to all its woes, the execrable FPJ is in every scene, backed up by another kid who looks like a 4ft, semi-formed clone of James Caan doing a retarded Sonny Corleone. The whole movie is like some strange closet gay wank-fest, with its homoerotic finale (bad guy on his knees in front of the two dicks) just one of many examples. They sure don't make them like this anymore and for that, I am grateful.
