IAAFFACG is a 1932 crime/drama film that is based off of Robert Elliot Burns's autobiography "I Am A Fugitive From A Georgia Chain Gang" and tells the story of James Allen (Paul Muni) who has just returned home from World War I. While home he walks into a robbery, ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time and is sent to a Georgia chain gang for ten years to live the life of a criminal. This in my opinion is a classic that doesn't get nearly enough attention. It is truly amazing. This film shows how bad life was in a chain gang especially to a man who is innocent. The meaning of this movie is to show the wrongfulness of the American Justice System. Paul Muni is and will always be a legend and this film shows the reason why. He was amazing in this role. The story tells the great message as I said above and is as in your face today as it was in 1932. This film is a gritty, emotional classic. The character-development is amazing. The development shows Paul Muni's character as the clear protagonist and it is always good to not have to decide or guess on who the protagonist is because in this movie it was very clear. Paul Muni's character the protagonist.... the people who ran the chain gang... the antagonists. I was really really bored one night and had absolutely nothing to do it was about 11. I looking through the channels and found this about to go on on TCM and saw that it was a short movie with a seem-to-be simple plot which was exactly what I was in the mood for so I turned it on. I do not regret it one bit. I don't watch that many classics but this has automatically added itself to my all-time favorites list. As for the Oscars, this was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Sound.... but lost all 3. I can't say much because this is the only movie I've seen from 1932 period but I would love to see what was able to beat this because they'd better be amazing. 100% I'd definately recommend this for you to watch.... GREAT MOVIE!
