By today's standards, this G-rater is too dull for kids and too simple for adults (except for those who think the Austin Powers sequels are filled with creativity.) Don Knotts does his shtick and gets a couple laughs. I watched much of this only because I had my right to choose taken away - I sure would have aborted if I could.Attaboy, Luther!

Now understand Holden Caufield in a whole new Billy Pilgrim way. And have a new understanding of why I was captivated by the Glass family when I read Salinger in the 60's. And why I am haunted by Esme. And why I must finish the novel I set aside when Elliott was diagnosed with his brain tumor.

From the lead character to her drug addict boyfriend or Chittiappa and even the minute character of Naseeruddin Shah had an impact. Anurag yet again trying something new on his part. Though the end was a bit predictable to me which might have shocked, the movie is a must.

I was sad that this movie did not include my beloved Gilbert, and left so many unanswered questions, but it was still quite good overall and it was nice to see how Anne Shirley became Anne of Green Gables! The story reminded me a bit of 'Jane Eyre' and 'North & South' mixed together. Also, it's too bad that Megan Follows couldn't play the older Anne in this movie, I guess she was too young, but aging make-up could have been an option, oh well...

(es) wrote: I always believed that choice of medium is usually not a barrier to expressions if one has the skills and guts to express oneself. Persepolis is yet another proof of that. I personally love the idea of not providing a solution or a justification for a solution as an ending of a movie, Persepolis showed the hope, sense of belonging and identity of the lead character without giving out a definite resolution. The choice of 2D black and white animation to narrate the story is very interesting and particularly effective. B&W still has, hidden in its monochromatic, high contrast backdrop, an extremely effective method of creating an engrossing, focused environment that resonates with the audience. The autobiographic movie with its Iranian revolution setting, and lead character's journey through her womanhood made an excellent use of the medium. The west often makes heroes and villains or rather celebrities, be it good or bad, out of people just because it is good business, I don't think Persepolis belongs to that category of capitalism. A fresh and welcome change from western ideological sell-outs which tells a captivating story and gets out the way of our thinking, and in the process makes you reflect more rather than when you're given set pieces. Kudos to the director and her team for coming up with such an enthralling depiction.
