Brian L (jp) wrote: As a person who is a big fan of dinosaur documentaries, I thought I would enjoy this film. Omg was I dissapointed. From just watching five minutes of this disgrace of a documentary, I could tell that there was little to no scientific research done on this film. The dinosaurs looked like blends of many different species, which is a poor choice when making a film about dinosaurs. The style of the film was what made me most upset. With the lack of narration throughout most of the film, it looked sloppy and unfinished. It looked to me like they made a kids movie and forgot to put in the voices.

A spoiled, rich kid, who lives a fantasy life and never fails. At least the first film had established the character, and maybe you could see girls going for him, this one has women all over him despite having zero charisma. Everything just falls magically into place for him, with little rhyme or reason. Not to mention, his father having a complete role reversal from the first film. So he's a party guy now? Chinese people talk funny? Way to have your finger on the pulse of comedy guys. Basically, soft core porn wish fulfillment.If you still high five people, collect Maxim magazine, and use the word "brah", think a great Halloween costume this year would be a "sexy" anything, you'll love this movie. If your knuckles don't drag on the ground, you'll hate it.
Jc E (gb) wrote: Excellent horror film with a great story and brilliant acting from John Cusack as the cocky writer of ghost stories, Mike Enslin and Samuel L Jackson, as Mr Olin, the cautious hotel manager of Dolphin Hotel. Never in the world would I expect the Carpenters classic nostalgia " We've only just begun" incongruously used as the recurring spooky and haunting song in the haunted room 1408. Not the typical haunted stories with macabre ghosts. Rather it were the painful memories of Mike Enslin, his deceased daughter of cancer being the worst, that would plague Mike over and over again like 'groundhog day' that was the most hurtful and unbearable. The best scene was the playful banter between Mr Olin and Mr Mike, one trying to dissuade the other not to venture into the room. In the meantime, not only was Mikes curiosity heightened but also us audience.

From the opening sequence to the end, we are treated to amazing production, wonderful imagery, masterful directing, and vigorous Russian acting that make the film a very vivid and cinematic experience. This is one of those great epics you must see because you do not want to take the chance of missing out on what you may find to be an all-time great film.

This is a rather funny fantasy-screwball comedy about a politician who falls in love with the resurrected witch who his Puritan descendant burned at the stake. I've only known Fredric March in dramatic roles before now. As it turns out, he's a great comic actor too and Veronica Lake, who would NOT fall in love with her? The film is still funny after all these years and the special effects are still pretty good too.

Viciously maligned at the time of its release, Bogdanovich stumbled with this surely, but didn't fail so spectacularly as reviewers at the time would have had you believe. Sure, there are obvious weaknesses: There's no plot to speak of, Shepherd's voice is terrible (though technically functional,) and you're never convinced by any of the lead romances. Still, a few things do work: Reynolds is surprisingly charming (and sings better than his turn in Whorehouse would lead you to believe,) and Madeline Kahn is... Well, she's Madeline effin' Kahn! And the scenes shared by Eileen Brennan and John Hillerman, unlike those between the four principals, are downright charming. If you're a fan of Cole Porter, Bogdanovich or the cast, give it a shot. If you're a casual viewer looking for a lively or interesting musical, pass.

However, it is appropriate to say, with a clear conscience, this movie was simply horrifying (and not in the good way). Shonky editing, unoriginal dialogue, incoherent camerawork, dreadful acting and unconvincing effects is simply the appalling start. Although always suffering under the weight of minuscule budgets, Horror movies have managed to create their own place in the heart of the film industry. With the unwavering support of faithful followers desperate to feel the adrenaline rush of fear, the blood-curdling genre has developed its own niche and is no longer simply Halloween entertainment, house-fillers for release schedules, or saviours to collapsing studio houses. However, this offering it is less about the fright and more about the funds. Wannabe writer/director Oren Peli, a young California-based Israeli filmmaker took his shoestring budget of AU $17,000, and his personal creepy new home experiences and created yet another in the line of Blaire Witch "true story" knockoffs. Set over 21 supposedly disturbing days, within the four walls of a San Diego suburban clich, 23 year old uni student Kate (Kate Featherston) fears that a demonic spirit (that apparently has been around since she was eight) has become disturbed she recently moved in with her day-trader boyfriend Micah (Micah Sloat). Manifesting its discontent with the new living arrangements, the "spirit" makes his presence known by flicking on lights, making noises etc, just being irritating but relatively harmless. Intrigued by the weird happenings, the tech-savvy Micah sets up cameras and microphones around the house in hopes to catch the "spirit" in the act.The logic that most people would have, to either leave-it-alone and not to antagonise an unwanted visitor that you can't see or ask to leave, escapes Micah. Looking for reassurance, Micah and Kate invite a Ghost expert and physic (Mark Fredrichs) to the house, the news is not good and they are told it's not a spirit but a demon and to seek further help. Micah in a typical I-can-handle-anything macho guy way decides he can sort it all out personally and against advice, gets a Ouija Board to communicate directly with it. Only further infuriating the creature, the relationships inside the house get worse, as well as the happenings. This is finally where the film picks up (at about the 80 minute mark of the 89 minute movie) and things at long last begin to take off. Unsuccessful in its attempts to be scary, through the trite giddy and grainy shooting style, endless thumping up/down stairs, constant flashing lights and plaintive whimpers of "Turn that camera off!", "This isn't funny!" and "Oh, my god!", this movie did induce a number of undeserving teen squeals in my showing. Hands down the most triumphant thing about this film was the carefully choreographed internet marketing campaign. Artfully manipulated to meet supply and demand (similar to that of Michael Jackson's This Is It originally short screening schedule) whilst taping directly into the YouTube generations unquenchable thirst exclusivity and raw realism. Making stops at some of the more extravert film festivals, Screamfest (A must for horror fans) and Sundance's edgier sibling Slamdance, the Twitter/Facebook hype created behind this utterly unimpressive film is simply absurd. The Verdict: The scariest thing about this film, besides it US $100 million box office takings is that fact that people around the globe have deluded themselves into believing this crudely made cinematic abomination is anything more than a trumped up home movie.
