A Kind of Murder

In 1960s New York, Walter Stackhouse is a successful architect married to the beautiful Clara who leads a seemingly perfect life. But his fascination with an unsolved murder leads him into a spiral of chaos as he is forced to play cat-and-mouse with a clever killer and an overambitious detective, while at the same time lusting after another woman.

As his life becomes dangerously entwined with Kimmel's, a ruthless cop is increasingly convinced he has found a copycat killer in Walter and aims to nail both murderers. But when Clara is found dead in suspicious circumstances, Walter's string of lies and his own guilty thoughts seem enough to condemn him. His desire to be free of her feeds his obsession with Kimmel, a man suspected of brutally murdering his own wife. Walter Stackhouse is rich, successful and unhappily married to the beautiful but damaged Clara. A psychological noir thriller set in 1960's New York based on Patricia Highsmith's novel, 'The Blunderer'

And mind your young folk. Not as intelligent as it looks. Families might well attend this unawares, thinking that it will have an worthwhile discussion of some big life issues: the mature and stellar cast, and the title promised as much. The worst of the prurience however is the explicit and detailed discussion of the method by which a youth took his own life, the information delivered by a likeable boy: this is utterly uncalled for, and inadvisable in circumstances where there is concern about rates of youth suicide and the publication of methods. This destroys what momentum it had. There are gaps and non-sequitors: was the girl's mother really such a foolish character, or was that how the boy saw her? Why didn't his smart university friends pull him up on his poor behaviour, and did he cause the tragedy, or not? Just as the slow-paced story seems, finally, to be approaching a reasonable denouement, it doubles back and relies for its ending by talking about events between characters whom we never see actually meeting in the film. The subject of sex is dealt with clumsily - the infantile lasciviousness of the girl's family, the unlikely and ambiguous car back seat scene, the tossing in of gratuitous references to the genitals including an awkward one about childbirth, which seems anatomically wrong in light of the preceding childbirth scenes. The latter is an annoyingly frequent feature of otherwise good quality British shows, and this one was not immune. But it gets distracted - if you have the likes of Broadbent and Rampling, why waste them on long silences and vacant, unsatisfying dialogue? It resorts instead to unnecessary twists and incongruent bits of prurience. Had the film made full use of its fine cast and drilled down into that problem, it might have delivered its message effectively. Its theme is how we see ourselves, and how blind or wrong we can be: an ageing, self-satisfied man finds out, maybe in time to change. The sense of a compromise: this looks something that started out with an idea of substance and was then taken over by lesser considerations

I highly recommend the Red Pill for everyone. She found that MRA's are not evil and are far from women-hating men. In the documentary you have a film maker who was a very well documented staunch feminist going in thinking she would be making a film about those evil MRA guys who hate women and found the truth is far from the lie she read about from feminist groups. Keeping it short and precise, the documentary is very well done and given time constraints it is only able to scratch the surface the very real and fact based issues facing males of all ages. Now to the documentary. The misandrous reviews given by the two critics are the very reason the Red Pill is so necessary for addressing real issues, based on fact, science, and reality as opposed to an ideological view point mired in Misandry the two critics must adhere. It leads one to wonder if they even watched it or just asked a member of NOW to write the review for them. It seemed only fair to the documentary to point out that two of the three critics with the top billing, aimed at swaying your decision in watching this documentary, spend their entire "reviews" preaching the most vehemently anti-male feminist propaganda and little time actually discussing the facts, information, and reality shown in the documentary. However the Village Voice critic and Screen-Space critic both red like third year women studies students so deeply engrossed in misandry they can not stand the idea of a documentary that "gasp" is not only well documented but excruciating factual and honest. One from Matthew Pejovic that is for the most part well written and addresses the documentary in a somewhat fair and somewhat unbiased way. At the time I write this their are only three listed. First I would like to address the critic reviews for this film

. . Great acting by the leads (both young and old) and supporting cast about warped memories from distant past that does cause one to pause and wonder at our shaped perceptions, reinforced perhaps erroneously by the passage of time, a bit like DNA gone awry

You'll laugh, but most likely won't cry. Once the story gets going though, it is enjoyable. Good movie with some great story telling and only a couple of awkward scenes that are a little too outrageous to believe

Interesting subject matter but rather short on in-depth research or Chapo's background, rise to power, etc. El Chapo documentary

-. The ending, featuring the expected tribute to those killed as well as interviews with survivors, is poignant, it's just a pity the movie as a whole doesn't do them better justice. Unfortunately, the final product is a tasteful yet disappointingly tepid treatment of the horrible attack that galvanized Boston and the nation. Patriots Day: On the heels of such pulse-pounding hits as Hell or High Water and Deepwater Horizon, director Peter Berg's tale about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing had the potential to be an emotionally-stirring winner, featuring an all-star cast (Mark Wahlberg, JK Simmons, Kevin Bacon) and incorporation of actual footage from the terrorist attack

First and only viewing - 1/14/2017). There is nothing remotely funny here. I wouldn't call it a comedy. The whole concept is dumb. Bad even for an indie film
