(n.b. part of my harry potter trio side project mini-marathon, which included driving lessons & the bbc's ballet shoes and my boy jack).

John C (jp) wrote: A thrilling and disturbing 70's movie leftover that reminds why that period of filmmaking was so exciting. Pacino's apparent discomfort with the role that he was playing ends up adding to authenticity of the piece. Yet another underseen and underappreciated film from director Friedkin.

The picture is about two men who meet at a poker club and both are into gambling and fast luck. Elliott Gould and George Segal are both perfect for their roles. When I watched California Split I noticed that gambling is not the solution it's a problem and pretty soon one has to fold their cards and put away on betting on the throughbreds.

Daniel Q (au) wrote: One of the worst films I have ever seen! The acting and dialogue are just horrible. The plot is non existent and the accents are laughable. To summarize the movie, two brothers are stranded on an island with a bunch of women that have never seen men. One of the brothers is a gun trafficker and is running from the law while the other is trying to help. The good brother falls in love with one of the women and the bad brother does more bad things. That's about it. The only reason I gave it a 30% is because I believe it's the first "Shark" movie ever made. Calling it a "Shark" movie is being extremely generous by the way, as we only see the shark twice in the whole film. One can argue that the film is old and that's the reason for the poor quality but Gone with the Wind was filmed in 1939, thats close to 20 years earlier, therefore there is no excuse for this steaming pile of crap.

Stefanus Andi G (mx) wrote: Space. The final frontier. Well, in this flick you won't see the space scene until the very end. It's about a struggle to harness dream, when the social convention state your future upon your gene. Hence it's near impossible, 1% chance, for a child to be an astronaut when his heart gene won't allow him to. Is it wrong to conceive another identity to surpass the gene wall for a de-gene-rate, a God child to seize his long hope?Tracks embedded convey superfluously being an up-beat sci-fi toward thriller kind. None too flashy yet fills inherently.Life is God gift lest the greatest one, therefore genetic engineering towards mankind shan't maketh human God, for humanity is tainted whether our faith for creation is misled for procreation. That would not make a man overcome himself, rather finding escapes from within self.
