(ru) wrote: Vapid, vacuous, an utter waste of time and money. What the hell were the filmmakers going for exactly? You have existing source material as well as decades of slasher horror history to springboard from.... and THIS is what you come up with, a killer in a baseball cap? It's not a whodunit which throws out the appeal of a mystery, and it's also PG-13 which throws out any chance of seeing some genre goods like bloody kills and gore.On top of that, the movie's script is so lazy and undercooked. Nothing is developed so you don't really have a clue as to why or how.... and frankly you're not gonna care anyways. Could this movie be any more dull, I even chuckled when I saw words like "production designer" lol, there was zero evidence of anything resembling design in this movie. Bottom line, Prom Night fails as a horror film, as a slasher film, and as a film period. How do you manage to remake a not so great slasher film from the 80's and do it worse?? Clearly advanced technology and a bigger budget can't buy talent... Not even the smidgen it would have taken to make a simple entertaining stalk n slash.

(au) wrote: this was the worst movie I've ever watched. I only sat through it based on other rotten tomato reviews, and I can wholeheartedly tell anyone reading this they'd be better off with a film made by a 6 year old... the music is pretty good, but that's the only redeeming quality of this movie.

(es) wrote: Huge, operatic, magnificently ambitious and emotionally exhausting, Magnolia is one of the greatest films of the last 30 years, possibly ever in fact. An incredible ensemble cast give across the board astonishingly powerful, complex performances, it's indeed hard to single out a single one, but Tom Cruise deserves mention, he gives a performance to silence all his haters as Frank Mackey, delivering a role of Nicholson esc manic intensity that makes you wish the actor would play out side his sandbox more often, he's truly amazing. This is a profound exploration of the real possibilities of cinema, an experiment in pushing the boundaries of movie storytelling and narrative, ans a beautiful look at the flaws and beauty of people and the ties that bind us all culminating in a final sequence of stunningly mad audacity that will prove too much for some to get past. A true masterpiece that will leave you feeling elated, and emotionally knackered.
