Kong M (ru) wrote: A Dark Material which is Surprisingly HumaneThis anime film is incredibly dark. It covers extreme poverty, hunger, cannibalism -- conditions that no one will want to see themselves live in such conditions . It explores humanity's perseverence and willpower against all odds. That said, I was surprised by the good moments especially on Asura's side. His difficult journey of discovering his identity was a heartwarming experience. I do not think its well-crafted 3D techniquesposes a problem in terms of what the film is trying to deliver.Overall, while I was impressed with the film's impact and delivery, I still feel that the film did not maximize the vast potential it was given. To me, whatever the film had achieved so far could have been better if it were remodelled into a short film.

Keir B (es) wrote: Nicolas Cage is on top form here, with John Cusack at his silent worst. It might be thrilling and has some interesting ideas, but it doesn't have the strength of its convictions, and the exploitative stripper sub-plot feels out of place.

Danielle U (jp) wrote: Not very funny, acting was ok but not great by any means, and the storyline could have been so much better. It had potential to be really funny, but fell flat. So many better movies to watch before this one.

Mandi L (fr) wrote: I enjoyed this film. It's more of a thought provoking science fiction movie rather than a horror/thriller. The concept is very interesting and the end had a good twist to it. This was really good considering it was probably done with a lower budget than most. If your looking for horror or action...you probably won't like this film.*SPOILER* It seemed like every time subject 2 was killed and brought back he lost a piece of his soul when all along if the "Doctor" had just waited it out after the first resurrection...the negative side effects would've passed and the "subject" would've been fine. But the doctor was too busy trying to be God to actually allow the serum enough time to work correctly.

Paul L (nl) wrote: "Barfuss" is probably the most genuine and touching Romantic Comedies that I have ever seen.Till Schweiger's direction is understated and unobtrusive, just the right touch for this genre of film. His portrayal of Nick Keller is perfect. Nick has chronic trouble holding onto any consistent line of employment. With the exception of his Mother, he dislikes his family and they dislike him. A bit of a crook, a bit of a con-man, but at the end of the day a likeable and honourable man.Johanna Wokalek's beautiful performance of Leila, a post traumatic disorder effected, but naive and innocent, young woman is something to behold. The film's title, "Barfuss" derives from the fact that Leila dislikes wearing shoes of any kind and walks around barefoot. Nick saves her from hanging herself and she instantly attatches herself emotionally to him. In her mind, she is his girlfriend and she behaves as such. Her naivete and innocent honesty, I think, is what wins over Nick's world-weary and cynical heart and what starts off as him protecting her becomes true love. While using the formula of your typical Romantic Comedy, "Barfuss" is anything but. I challenge anyone, male or female, not to have a tear in one's eye at the end of the film.Simply brilliant!

EQ R (au) wrote: Although the film lacks some good supporting performances and a story that stretches a bit too much, it is a very good premise with some nice action sequences, accompanied by some good performances from both Affleck and Eckhart which make this "man-on-the-run" thriller one to check out. Simon D (jp) wrote: A very weak entry into the Star Trek series. The team of cheesy bad actors try to save a community of smiley do-gooders from evil Aliens who want to kill them all for some reason or another. It all looks like a bad episode of lost. I really think Patrick Stewart was a terrible choice for this role. When the main star of these films is so bad, it lowers the bar for all those lesser paid actors, and seemingly, the storywriters too.
