A World Apart
A White enclave in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the 1960s. Molly Roth, 13 years old, is the daughter of leftist parents, and she must piece together what's happening around her when her father disappears one night, barely evading arrest, and, not long after, her mother is detained by the authorities. Some of Molly's White friends turn against her, and her family's friendships with Blacks take on new meaning. Relationships are fragile in the world of apartheid. How will she manage?

(ru) wrote: haha, well, it's a throw-back to the old "giant-monster-destroys-cities" movies of yore. From the makers of Tokyo Gore Police, but it's actually not gory. It's just silly.

(us) wrote: Once the story goes Deliverance (1972), it's a nail-biter, and the minimalist aesthetic is an asset rather than a liability. Devised for minimum fuss and maximum tension, Trigger Man is the little thriller that could.

(mx) wrote: Funny, arty, simplistic, coming of age lesbian film. Max is one to watch!(Guinevere Turner a massive achiever!) This film rasies some valid points about lesbianism and the stigma attatched.

(au) wrote: Based on the writings of the Marquis De Sade the film follows a group of dumb models and their idiot bosses as they break into a castle which is inhabited by the ghost of a medieval torturer known as the Crimson Executioner. Bad acting and horrible fight scenes not to mention the worst dub job I have ever seen and if you follow my reviews you know that I watch a lot of crap. The soundtrack on the other hand is pretty cool and some of the torture methods are well thought out, but that's it.
(mx) wrote: It might be the most influencial sports documentary ever made, but I just couldn't get into it. There was too much narration for me, and I thought looking at athletes competing without any context was dull. I'm not even remotely a sports person, so that could be the problem.

(ag) wrote: Wanted to catch up on a past performance from Marisa Tomei as the family cousin, but it's Natasha Lyonne's role as Vivian that shines through this movie. Alan Arkin heads this cast as father struggling to make it in the glamour of Beverly Hills. Entertaining supporting cast from Jessica Walter, Mena Suvari, Carl Reiner and Rita Moreno. Typical R rating from the 90's but enjoyable popcorn movie!
