Harri S (gb) wrote: A convoluted political satire with a few too many characters and plot points crammed in. Not one of Sayles' best, but still watchable.
Yaaynie K (de) wrote: Yet another Dracula movie. And it's a stupid story. Jason Lee Scott as a vampire hunter? Who came up with that idea. He is too much of a cuty boy for that part.
Andy G (ru) wrote: One of my favorite Tom Cruise movies, one of the most unique ideas for a mystery thriller I've seen, and I always find it just as exciting every time I watch it. Great acting all around, and great directing as always from Steven Spielberg. I've always thought Tom Cruise works best with Sci-fi, and this is the perfect example of that. The movie also has some really cool sci-fi ideas about the future.Personal Grade: S+Technical Score: 90%
Reno V (au) wrote: "JOHNNY DEPP VERSUS JACK THE RIPPER"- 'From Hell' is a 2001 horror mystery film directed by the Hughes brothers (the Book of Eli) and based upon the many stories surrounding Jack the Ripper, one of the first reported serial killers. Set in the slum called Whitechapel in the Victorian London, this stylish film shows the dramatic and hard life of the poor. I really like the storyline, but moreover the impressive cast: Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands), Robbie Coltrane (Harry Potter saga), Ian Holm (Alien) and Heather Graham (Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged Me). London 1888. The streets of the Whitechapel District are filled with drunks, beggars and prostitutes. Inspector Frederick Abberline (Depp) is summoned by Sergeant Peter Godley (Coltrane) to investigate the brutal murder on Martha Tabram, a prostitute. A part of her kidney has been removed. While his boss thinks that it was a butcher who killed the woman, Abberline suggests that the murderer has a medical knowledge and probably a high classed member of society. He visits Sir William Gull (Holm), the doctor of the Royal Family, who agrees with him that the cutting is the work of an expert. When a second woman of the street is killed, it becomes clear that Mary Kelly (Graham) and her coworkers are in danger. Can Abberline stop the man who is called 'Jack the Ripper'?

Shane D (ru) wrote: Ralph Bakshi took a lot of shit for this movie, but it was obviously given to him by people who only saw what they wanted to see. The problem is, people are always so quick to cry racist before they actually know what's going on. This and Heavy Traffic are perfect satires of what was going on at the time.
Stefanos T (au) wrote: It's a rather long and arduous film but it provides great insight into the poor lives of the fishermen. It's so evocative, it made me wanna join Marxism. Although, I am not sure what that even means.
