Philip W (nl) wrote: A emotional and striking view on one of the turning points in the civil rights movements, Selma provides us with a detailed look on some of MLK's most inspirational and moving speeches. While David Oyelowo does a great job of portraying Dr. King with seemingly raw emotion and energy, this film loses points as it doesn't do a great or fully accurate job of showing the relation between King and President Johnson, over dramatizing it for the sake of the film. Non the less, Selma shines at multiple points and is very comparable to some of the events regarding Black Life's Matter today.

Anna P (es) wrote: It was on my "to watch" list for a while, pretty much because of the high rating that I saw here. Today I set time aside and watched it. I felt that I truly wasted those 2 and something hours. It was slow, weird but not amusing, it did not make me feel anything, I have not learned anything new, and all in all I did not find it enjoyable at all. The characters are a wacky and bizarre. I have no idea what was the story, nor IF there was a story. More like random fragments in the life of a random family. I give one star for the scenery and music. One of the most off the wall and boring films that I had the misfortune to watch in a while.
Mai T (ag) wrote: HORRIBLE WRITING AND DIRECTING!!!! I had such high hopes for this movie due to Levitt and Haas, but the writer/director is trying too hard to be "art house-ish" What a disaster!!! The dialog is sooo unbelievable that it is comical. The only appeal is for those type of histers that need to fake cool just to prop up their own egos... yea you know the type. This is what I presume the majority of the "liked it" reviews are... It clearly is not the script! In short, great premise, horrible dialog and horrible directing of two great actors who went on to shine together in Inception just a few years later. My advice is to avoid this writer/director at all costs and enjoy a real director of heavy dark plots like David Fincher.

Jake A (au) wrote: Linda Fiorentino is awesome in this neo-noir film. With an awesome script, really good plot, good twists and it is also cool, sexy, smart and darkly funny. I also loved the score and the rest of the cast were fantastic.

Dr. Caligari is able to awake a dead creature/man named Cesare who can tell the future. Cesare tells the best friend he is going to die and he does that very night. Francis escapes to tell his tale. It will be hard to find the fair and doctor until Cesare slips up one night and falls in love with a girl he is supposed to kill. The girl's family, authorities, and Francis track the doctor back to Cesare and the girl at the fair. "Step right up."Robert Weine, director of Crime and Punishment, Der Rosenkavalier, Ultimatum, Eight Days of Happiness, Panic in Chicago, Scandal in Paris, and The Guardsman, delivers The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. The storyline for this picture is very interesting and takes place in remarkable settings with beautiful backdrops, costumes, and contains perfectly performed performances. "Let's go to the fair."I came across this when it was recently added to Netflix for the Halloween season and added it to my wish list. I loved how this film was presented and told. The backdrops were so well done and the makeup and costumes were excellent. I strongly recommend seeing this for fans of the genre and era. Adam K (jp) wrote: Highly overrated, an unlikeable lead character and a lack of any plausible character motivation make this film a very frustrating experience, despite some nice shots of an icy Minnesota!
Aysha P (au) wrote: This movie is still amazing, it is ageless and a visual masterpiece. The characters are in depth. It's a well done movie that you can watch over and over again. The puppetry is simply divine, Jim Henson's dark take on muppets was great. If you've already seen the movie, you can see it differently. If you look close enough, you can see David Bowie's face hidden cleverly in the labyrinth. You can also see the goblin world mirrored in the real world. A must-see movie.

Jamin M (us) wrote: I think this film is very, very well put together. It has great vocal performances, especially by Shia LaBeouf and Jeff Bridges, likeable characters, a decent story, witty and funny dialogue, and the fact that the film is about surfing allows for very beautiful imagery. It also mocks the documentary genre in fun and inventive way. I really like it's laid-back and relaxing atmosphere. But I think what really makes the film stand out is that it does give a fresh spin on elements people have seen before, Though the story has been done before, it's delivered in a pretty unique and interesting way thanks to the mockumentary style. It's a good example of a film that has a story and characters that have been done countless times before, but the execution is so good that it makes it enjoyable. I guess the only problem I have is that they could've fleshed out the romance between Cody and Nani more. In my opinion, it's a great film. I love it. Surf's Up is a fun, cool, heartwarming good time that the whole family can enjoy
Alexander F (ca) wrote: As much as a great Norse god of thunder and his allies of Asgard, this version of the magical realms comes off as alien compared to the traditional fantasy setting. The story is quite decent other than the odd romance between the two main protagonists is forced. Overall a "meh, it was decent," experience.
