Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told

Adolf Hitler: The Greatest Story Never Told

Far outside what's normally taught as "history", this 6-hour documentary attempts to explain what's normally glossed over - Germany's actions prior to WWII, Hitler's popularity, the support of the Nazis by the Germans, the basis for hardline Nazi stances against Jews, and why Nazism was such a danger to the established world powers. It chronicles the German WWI defeat, communist attempts to take over Germany; hyperinflation during the Weimar Republic, widespread unemployment and misery that served as the foundation of Nazi principles, and Hitler’s amazing rise to power. It also reveals a personal side of Hitler: his family background, his artwork and struggles, and what motivated him to pursue a career in politics. While open to criticism for being "pro-Nazi" in its perspectives, the documentary does present many factual foundations for those perspectives, highlighting an endless list of hypocrisies and double-standards imposed on Germany in the years before, during, and after WWII.

Lucas Y (ag) wrote: Interesting how William Friedkin can make 2 of the greatest films ever back to back (French Connection & The Exorcist) & then not make anything special ever again. This was a good idea for a story & actually a little bit ahead of its time, but Blue Chips fails miserably to reach the greatness of films like The Program or He Got Game. The scenes where Nolte recruits the bigtime players like Penny & Shaq are the most enjoyable. Once the controversy over the players being paid starts this gets very boring. And the actors certainly can't save this lame story. I've always had a crush on Mary McDonnell for the record.

Set in 19th Century Mexico, it follows the exploits of escaped black convict Luke (Jim Brown) who teams up with eccentric gold prospector Jaroo (Lee Van Cleef), looking for gold. Jaroo hears of a vast heavily armed fortress which is said to contain a large cache of gold. They end up recruiting a band of Native Americans, led by Santana (Iron Eyes Cody), to perform attack waves on the fort, but the fort, ran by Chavez (Patrick O'Neal) seems to be well handled to tackle the Native's attack waves, so Jaroo decides to plan a stealth attack, and they're able to get Chavez's mistress Claudine (Marianna Hill) on their side to help with their planned attack. Shot in Andalusia, Spain, where many Spaghetti Westerns were made during the 1960's, it's a good film with a good plot and Brown and Van Cleef make a good double act throughout the film, and there's some good action sequences too. It also has a good score by Maurice Jarre, which helps add to the atmosphere.

Liam D (mx) wrote: A fun take on the alien invasion genre with some good performances form the main cast, as well as few faces that will be well known to British TV viewers. It manages to delicately work the line of 'serious' sci-fi and absurd comedy to an extent that even through the more ridiculous moments it manages to successfully suspend belief to keep you invested in the film. Definitely a fun watch.
