Steve W (br) wrote: A very mixed bag of a classic tale. Its "The Dark Knight Returns" of Robin Hood.Robin Hood is now 20 years older, and returns to Sherwood Forest after being with the corrupt King Richard during the Crusades. He sees his old friends and enemies, and attempts to reclaim his former glory when he is forced to fight again. The only real technical flaw in the movie is that it features some apples in the beginning and ending shot, which did not exist in that time. Also, it has a notorious ending that I cannot spoil. Let's just say its too depressing for words. The violence sort of grabs hold of you at first. You expect Robin Hood to be jolly, along with his merry men. Then you see Robin Hood cut a man's throat with a sword and kill about 5 guys in the same brutal fashion. The final sword duel between Robin and the Sheriff (wonderfully played by Robert Shaw) is excellent, and one of the best on film. Both fighters get tired, they sweat, try and get out of the path of the sun.The cast is also really good, Ian Holm in a short role as well as Richard Harris as King Richard. Audrey Hepburn is great too.Overall, worth a look if you are into seeing Robin Hood as a weathered old man trying to live his life after everything did not go the way he expected. Some good acting and chemistry, and an exciting adventure romance.

Brett H (jp) wrote: An old-school, atmospheric Western film starring one of my favourite actors working today, Mads Mikkelsen that doesn't add a lot of "wow factor" or originality, but boy is it shot beautifully. This is a Danish-made film and the European influences of vibrant colours and lingering camera shots really stood out to me which was refreshing to see so much brightness in a Western who's colour-pallet is usually pretty slim. The story is quite tragic with our protagonist, who's a Danish immigrant to America and upon waiting 7 years, finally is reunited with his wife and son only to have them taken from him by a pair of criminals which starts him on a revenge path until he ultimately winds up in the sights of the local gangster, played brilliantly by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The acting is all really good with Eva Green playing a mute, and disfigured wild card in the story, Jonathan Pryce playing a slimy, mayor, and Mads Mikkelsen as the stoic hero trying to come out on top. There are a few surprises in the film that come in the last act which shook things up a bit and were greatly appreciated given how conventional the story was until then. I will say, that the inevitable final shoot-out was only decent and could've been staged a bit better, but the movie had a modest budget and acted accordingly. It's not the fresh, new take on Westerns I had hoped it would be, and I more admire the film than truly love it, but if you're a fan of classic cinema, there's plenty of nods and throwbacks to that style and it should satisfy any Western fan.

It's hard to watch and I've been putting it off for a while. The Gobi desert was particularly tedious. A good movie of its type; not a type I particularly go for, though.

Roxanne R (ru) wrote: Wow, cheers to writer AND director Steven Gomez for creating an interesting scifi motion picture that compels the viewers to ask important questions about the future of Artificial Intelligence and how robots could harm humanity if programmed incorrectly. An elite squad of trained marines is sent to a remote island for a training exercise and they are accompanied by my favorite character- a tech head named Mills (Vanessa Kirby) who is a coder with an implanted chip, her brain is interfaced with a computer. If I can be honest, I wish I had her capability to view people and immediately know everything about them like a computer connected online. Superb! This film not only defies the limited budget given but I also agree with John Noonan from FILMINK Australia who said: "Steven Gomez' feature debut, Kill Command, is a stunning piece of eye candy for those who like their cinematic technology to bite back." A must see sci-fi action thriller and available to stream in HD from Netflix!
