Yoshida’s first big-budget production and colour film is a haunting tale of unrequited love and postwar disillusion. The story of the fatal attraction between a spineless intellectual and a strong woman is conventional, but its enactment is radically new.

But never the less, with a bit of tact, and a lesser addiction to being aloof would have changed European history for the rest of us.. The movie never the less, managed to grab most of the intensities.. Acting wasn't the best but suited to what the movie permitted..

It's a very familiar story and pretty much touches upon the basic plot points but the performances of the two leads are outstanding and the film is gorgeously shot. The film has unforgettable and thought-provoking moments (like the scene in the tunnel) and is a definite must-see for anyone with a strong opinion on illegal immigration in the U.S.

French comedies are quite different and rely more on wit than on-screen gags. This is what makes these films worth seeing. Funes as usual is hilarious and he delivers a comical tour de force performance that is sure to delight fans of the genre. If you're looking for a great French comedy, then this is one that is worth checking out. Hibernatus is a film that ranks up there as one of Louis de Funes' best films and is entertaining from the first shot onwards. The originality of the plot is what keeps you involved as well as Funes' knack for delivery. He is a fine, talented comic and the cast around him are equally good and they all bring something great to the screen. The plot is well thought out and whimsical in terms of comedy and it works well enough to keep you involved from start to finish. What I love the most about French comedies is that they do something totally different from American comedies, they're more interesting in certain ways and the gags are better thought out with people that can actually be funny and act. Hibernatus is a great comedy that if you love Funes' work, you will surely enjoy this film. French comedies don't get any better than this. With effective acting, and well written script, this is a must watch for genre fans looking for another wonderful French comedy that is sure to make them laugh with sharp humor and memorable performances.
