Alex & Emma

Writer Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) must finish his novel within a month. If he doesn't, he won't get paid. And, if that happens, angry Mafia types to whom he owes money will come looking for him. In order to expedite things, Alex hires typist Emma Dinsmore (Kate Hudson) and begins dictating his novel. The book is about a doomed love affair between a character similar to Alex and a character named Polina Delacroix (Sophie Marceau). But, as Alex falls for Emma, his work takes a different turn.

Nick P (ag) wrote: The fight scenes weren't as complete as I expected them to be from Takashi Miike, and I know for a fact that he can produce much more "bad-ass" into any piece of film, and think he should have tried just a little bit harder on this one...but other than that this film was awesome and nothing less. Unique story, even with all the other "wanna-be superhero" films that have been coming out lately. Takashi Miike is and always will be a master of Cinema, even with a budget worth no more than a few peanuts. The epic ending gives this film an extra .5 star by itself.

Hobie P (kr) wrote: This was a good flick thats much better than the original. With lead actress Jill Schoelen is what makes the film fun.

Peter S (it) wrote: Great action comedy. As you would expect, Steve Carrell is top notch as a bumbling agent, he's like inspector closesau. (If you don't know who that is, stop whatever you're doing and go watch a movie entitled a shot in the dark) With such a game cast, funny jokes and thrilling action, you really can't go wrong. Not necessarily a must see, but you will laugh a lot, unless you only like high comedy.

I was disappointed. I was expecting with how many said this was great that it would be a much better film.

James C (kr) wrote: When a couple are involved in a crash and their car is wrecked, and the local Police officer takes them to a local motel to stay the night, they soon discover that things are not as they seem. Here we have a low budget horror movie that would appear to have spent most of it's cash on two B-List actors and left nothing for any other part of the movie. The story steals a majority of it's plot elements from all the other torture porn movies you have seen (Vacancy, Hostel, etc.) and the original ideas that are there make absolutely no sense whatsoever. The production values are mixed, as the sequences with the main couple are very well handled, but the sequences of the 'audience' watching look like they were added in at the last moment and shot on a home video with a few mates. A majority of the gore is off-screen and all you get to see is a couple of cuts and a few naked chicks. The acting is all over the place, from the completely wooden to they totally overt the top, but it was good to see Jeff Fahey being quite psychotic, and a special mention must go to Michael Madsen as I could not actually work out what is what actually doing in the film, but he did it very well. All in all this is a film that tried to have some good ideas, but seemed to fall at every hurdle. There are many other similar movies out there and all of them are a lot better.

I was dragged to this one by my then girlfriend thinking it was a total chick flick - obviously that couldn't be further from the truth. Very crude comedy with Ben Stiller in his most comfortable role as the lovable loser. Matt Dillon steals the show as the sleezy P.I. This is a very un-PC movie which is right in my wheel-house. Not all the jokes hit the mark perfectly, but the ones that do are gut-busters. Great side characters like Warren (franks and beans) and the hitchhiker (7 minute abs). Excellent pacing with non-stop jokes and action. An absolute classic comedy.Grade = 8.5/10
