Alex Is Lovesick
This feature is one of the Israeli cinematography milestones. It displays the atmosphere of the late Israeli 50s from the view of young boy Alex, just becoming 13. His mom is the classic "Polish Mother", his school friends are young hustlers dreaming of nude girls, his schoolmaster is a nervous Russian immigrant. The street speech is full of Polish, Russian, and Farsi slang, full of the small talk that had later entered the everyday speech. The soundtrack, which is quite remarkable, is built solely on the American music of the period. Everyone in the feature finds one's love and happiness.

Yim Pil-Sung goes zombies with the first piece, Brave New World. The story is pretty straightforward and is laced with humor and some stylization, rather than focusing on the bloody carnage of a zombie horde.Kim Ji-woon's Heavenly Creature pulls back on the reigns and moves at a slower pace. With a more futuristic setting and a major robot character, this piece is visually pleasing and has the opportunity to be expanded on.Yim Pil-Sung ends things with Happy Birthday, which contains the most laughs thanks to its absurd and over the top storyline. There are amusing performances all around with some noticeable faces, such as Ryu Seong-beom and Bae Doona each having their own short to play with.Doomsday Book may not be as serious as its title may sound, but viewing the three chapters of this collection isn't regrettable.

(kr) wrote: This is a fucking brutal movie with a stupid storyline and really fucking atrocious acting. They call it a sci fi time travelling thriller when in fact it is really just a load of fucking nonsense and looks like it cost nothing to make.. The fact that these fucking eejits keep going into this abandoned mine like they are yo-yos is so stupid. Who goes into a abandoned mine?? Who is fucking stupid enough to go into a mine then get lost in there then think that there is something weird in there with them, then finally find a way out of the mine and then GO BACK into the fucking mine AGAIN .....AND AGAIN... AND AGAIN These fucking morons must go into the mine like 5/6 times. I dont know anyone over the age of 14/15 who would stupid enough to even go in to a abandoned mine even once.. Most people know to avoid abandoned mines ... I kept waiting for this movie to not be terrible and then it ended. I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and tell myself not to fucking watch this. Really really bad movie. Bad to the point of laughable at times. That girl Rose may be a babe but her acting is a shambles. Off the wall stuff. Ghost of Mars may suck donkey balls but at least they tried. Do yourself a favour and dont watch this. Just staring at the wall for a hour and a half would be more entertaining and make more sense.
(kr) wrote: The whole story behind this documentary of how & why Tommy Chong was sent to jail is both interesting & disturbing. A completely absurd charge for something he had nothing to do with. Just goes to show you how the Patriot Act is in complete violation of our rights under the constitution. And also, that the government can find a way to send anyone they want to jail.
(it) wrote: Very interesting and tough well acted, I don't think it's as well made as Capote.
(ru) wrote: i'd give this film at least double the 31%it has here.
(jp) wrote: It's full moon, so you know kind of what to expect. It's about a trash man who finds/sells a fetus... It's gory and stupid and cheesy, but I enjoyed it when I was young.
(ru) wrote: Absolute shite !One of the worst movies I have seen in my entire life !Acting was just woeful !!!
(nl) wrote: An enjoyably trashy chunk of 80's sword and sorcery fantasy exploitation cheese....for those who like this stuff yes, otherwise not much to offer.......

(kr) wrote: Ryan O'Neal stars with his daughter Tatum (in her film debut) as a Depression-era confidence man who agrees to take the young daughter of an ex-lover to stay with her only relatives after her mother dies. After he uses her to extort some money from the men responsible for her mother's death (which he spends on a new car), she blackmails him into keeping her with him until he can earn the money to pay her back. The two drive around the Midwest running various scams and bonding. Like all of Bogdanovich's best films, this pays homage to classic Hollywood films while adding a decisively modern edge to them. O'Neal the elder is in top form, but its' Tatum who really shines.

Seven years later, this is the film Chaplin made against the world's culpability in mass destruction. "Numbers sanctify," his serial killer explains, briefly unpacking heavy accusations against military-industrial operations as toxic to civilization. His Tramp character always survived a chaotic world, whether surrounded by the greed of a gold rush, hustle and bustle of modern times, or struggling to make ends meet for a kid. Here is the Tramp reborn, still playful and witty, but now doing very well for himself armed with murder and deceit.

Mary's impoverished life story is told in flashback. Her bad luck seems to go down even more when she gets involved with a gangster, Leo Darcy (Ricardo Cortez). Loretta Young as a gangster's mall has got to be seen to be believe. She's not necessarily a bad girl, but has had some bad luck and made some wrong choices in life. While she's helping Leo's gang rob a casino, she is met by Tom Mannering Jr. (Franchot Tone), who always plays the handsome rich playboy. This time he falls madly in love with Mary. Tom tries to turn Mary's life around, getting her some secretarial training and gives her a job in his Father's business. But her past comes back to haunt her.Yes, it's overly melodramatic, and it really is pretty tame for now days, but it's still a good movie to watch and it shows Loretta Young when she wasn't playing her typecast goody-goody parts that she has become so famous for. There's a long, tantalizing scene where Mary whispers into Leo's ear trying to persuade him to stay home with her instead of him going out to kill Tom.This movie has been released on DVD and the film and sound quality is fantastic.

(it) wrote: Even though Jonathan Daniel Brown is one of the most annoying people on Twitter, he delivers in this honest and funny true crime story. He's also backed up by a committed supporting cast(Aaron Yoo needs to be in more stuff).
(us) wrote: This is an extremely interesting outlook on war and specifically WWII. Mixing the documentary footage with the acting aspecty was a creative way to look at things. It was very drawn out and seemed long in places but you were still drawn into the story of the movie which ultimately was the D-Day story. The documentary footage was awesome especially with the combination of the modern day and original, superb. Altogether it was a pretty good movie but something that you needed to really watch as unique.

(ru) wrote: I'm aware this is based on a true story, however I felt parts of it were ridiculous and unconvincing. Maybe it's because of the way it's presented, but it had me rolling my eyes a little. Still a decent film, but I wouldn't watch it again.
