This is a great piece of american late 70's neurosis ( this is seldom done this right) and, obviously, a great dance piece and a perfect exemple of Fosse directorial style, one where the color palette of the day to day is voluntarily drab to put it in relief with the sparkle of the stage wich is only real life all dressed up. In fact the day to day scenes would have benefited from a more stark minimalist, the accessorist should have been put aside. Still, It would be a great shame if some of thoses scenes didnt exist and art, stage and cinema would not be quite the same. Rob Scheider is also perfect, suprisingly fitting in this totally reversed casting.
