Brennen d (jp) wrote: Really solid film. The story hits hard. 4.5/5

Patrick R (es) wrote: This movie has much going for it, especially Yvan Attal and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The usually wonderful Terrence Stamp doesn't see quite right, however, for a key role. Still, nice subplots involving the in-laws and the shooting of a nude scene. And good use of an instrumental version of Paul McCartney's "Musical Junk" (or some title like that).....Upon further review, I'm liking it more and more.

Amanda H (es) wrote: Heart-wrenching at times, funny, warm, brilliant with wonderful acting. Even though, as talented as Juliet is, she sometimes looks a little manly. I love her though, she's terrific. A surprising, lovely film!

Aj V (mx) wrote: Sometimes entertaining, but sometimes unbelievable and silly. I had a hard time rating this movie. Overall it's okay.

Peter W (au) wrote: A decent work by Ben Stiller on the difficult passage from childhood to self-responsibility. Authentic heartfealt dialogues in this serious comedy. You'll love Winona Ryder, but will she find her way?

I still don't like it as much as the other Wes Anderson works I have seen, but it was an interesting film with a very strong ending. The acting was good and, while the cinematography is always good in Anderson films I feel like the camerawork wasn't quite as strong or unique to his style in this movie. Also, the "stakes" weren't all that high for the most part - the only one who really had something to lose was Bill Murray's character. Nevertheless, it was well-written with a good mix of humor and strife. Love the scale of the high school production at the end. Lots of good stuff here, including a superb soundtrack; though it didn't feel as true to Wes Anderson's unique style as the other films of his I have seen and the dark moments that do pop up are quickly squelched where they possibly could have been investigated further.Grade = 7.5/10
