An american guy is a jerk and isn't faithful to an Irish lass, she faces family issues at home, and he never sees her again. Decides to direct a movie about it using actors as to keep himself out of the picture. Odd. Worth a look if you want something out of the ordinary, but not extraordinary by any measure.

It's a really fun watch, and its more like listening to a person's memories than it is watching a film. The large cast of characters are wonderfully performed, and the film is pretty entertaining.

Even the rich kids are bored and the one with the long hair is trying to revolt...I think... I also feel for Neil who is in confusion. How did his life come to this for all the characters. Few movies can capture so well the look in an eye, the feeling in an expression, the thoughts that go unspoken between the words. And we realize that what we want from life WE ALL WANT TO BE HAPPY!!!. It is not the job that makes you unhappy. It is whether you want to be doing it. 5 STARS life is depressing.

Jacques Tourneur is somewhat of an underrated director, but this film is not among his best. Still, it's not a bad film. My main complaint is that the pace seems unnecessarily slow in places, but Tourneur manages to deliver several memorable and visually striking sequences. Worth watching, but far from a classic.
