Bradley K (br) wrote: This bleak procedural is in many ways is the opposite of the film Se7en. A big city cop goes to the sticks to find redemption. If Se7en is a narrative from the perspective of the young, optimistic atheist trying to make future and understand a perversely moralistic killer then this is a film from the perspective of a struggling yet pious man trying to reconcile the past and understand an irrational and amoral killer. And while this film is obtuse at times it is a promising work of a director with much potential. Great central performances.
Derek H (kr) wrote: A low budget movie with high emotional sensibilities. A haunting duet for two great actors who haven't lost a step and have gained the most exquisite lyricism. Nightmarishly dreamy, sweet, and life affirming. The mere final line of the film are words and moments that one lives life for.

Kevin N (ru) wrote: One of Woody Allen's best films, and probably, to me, his most moving. The film seems to capture a time in Allen's life in which a tug of war between his crippling depression and lust for creation, and happiness through creation, was occurring. The result is an examination on the ups and downs of mortality, but sprinkled with genuine optimism and warmth. The cast is phenomenal, particularly the three female leads. Mia Farrow (Hannah) anchors herself as a collected and stable medium between her two wandering sisters. Their lives, as well as the lives of their lovers, intertwine in a grotesque braid that goes between being funny, joyous, ugly and horrific, but this is a film about life's unexplainable balance, and it ends its weave with a graceful bow.
Kyle M (nl) wrote: It grows on you as you watch it, and it genuinely touches the heart. Its utter lack of pretense makes it sing. I was very moved by it at certain parts, and in its own way is by turns peculiarly enduring and heartbreaking. Very unforgettable. Honest in its portrayal of the good and not-so-good of people. It is very well directed; it amazes me how such a simply told and somewhat offbeat story can be so engrossing and yet so collected. You grow attached to the characters, even with so little dialogue. Packs a wallop without a dose of sentimentality.
Brandon S (au) wrote: Lawerence Tierney is amazing as gangster Dillinger his facial expressions are spot on to the suspense of the film. Short but effective crime quickie starts as Dillinger commits his first holdup and then blazes through the rest of his life to his death. The action sequences are great, the direction is great, and the fast paced camera shots are perfect. An all around great piece of work.
