Zsadányi flees from the authorities with his goddaughter, Bankós Mari, and they escape into the forest. The film then skips ahead thirty-fold years: Zsadány and Mari are now lovers, with the sound of war in the background halting their romance. The old friends of Zsadányi have joined with the Nazis, and the landowner living with his peasants in a socialist community grows distant from them. Zsadányi is held responsible for political problems in the country, and will pay with his life.

The three think it's all a goof, but once they open up the antique box to examine their "treasure," they unleash the vengeful spirit of an Irish servant girl who has been wreaking havoc on her owners throughout the generations

More time could have been spent developing Charlotte's character before she became Dominique, for example (an extra five minutes would have sufficed), but I think other parts of the story, like when the Germans arrived, were done well.

Steenburgen quickly learns that she is a prisoner in the isolated mansion and some nice suspense set pieces follow shortly thereafter. Though it's a well crafted film and features some good performances, particularly McDowall, the film does feel a bit slow at times and could have ratcheted up the suspense some.

(kr) wrote: Adapted from the novel the film has great characters especially sisters which is played by Cameron Diaz and Toni collete wherein only thing they have in common is the shoe size and how they find their love for each other. A movie to watch.
(au) wrote: I enjoyed this film when I was a kid. This is just a complete waste of time! Why would anyone find this the least bit entertaining!? The kid Danny, is the worst thing about it! Constantly reminding not only Schwarzenegger, but the audience that he is in a movie, and dammit, making horrible joke after horrible joke! F%#? YOU! Not even the action itself was enough to make this feature decent! You want a good Schwarzenegger film? Stick to the Terminator! Don't watch this one!

(jp) wrote: Investigating the source of an extraterrestrial radio transmission, an exploration team touches down on a desolate planet. There they discover an alien spacecraft, the skeletal remains of her long dead crew and a malevolent parasite in search of a host. Sound familiar? It should do because all of the above was ripped off by Ridley Scott's Alien, roughly fifteen years after this movie came out. With a miniscule budget, some bad acting, terrible dialogue and silly costumes, Planet of the Vampires ought to be a prime slice of Sixties cheese, enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. What saves the film is Mario Bava's mastery of atmosphere and his genius for no-budget special effects. This isn't quite Bava at his best but it's still colourful, creepy and a lot of fun. Forget the title though; the baddies here are not vampires, they're more like zombies or bodysnatchers, depending on whether their victims are still alive or already dead!
