Eric R (fr) wrote: What starts out as a relatively standard Johnnie To action film quickly becomes a tale of karma deeply rooting in buddist principles. This is a film that is pretty much impossible to place in a specific genre. It's an action/comedy/drama/super-hero/philosophical film about an Jacked up ex-monk turned exotic dancer who has a gift for seeing Karma happening. He meets a young female police officer and begins to help her catch a murderer on the loose. Yea, the story is definitely unique and different, and for the most part its fun. About halfway through the film it kinda changes from comedy/super-hero/fantasy to more a serious philosophical drama becoming a buddist parable. To's style is very much in tact; but its definitely different than most of his films. I enjoyed it, but I just didnt find myself nearly as interested in the second half philosophical section as I did in the campy, violent, comedic first section.

Tim S (kr) wrote: Time Walker (AKA Being From Another Planet) is one of those movies that can be halfway enjoyable if you allow it to be, but it's simply just not a great movie at all. It has a lot of problems, mainly the way it was shot. The mummy, or the alien if you will, can barely be seen in close-ups, and they show it in A LOT of close-ups, so you're never quite sure what you're looking at. The cast itself is lackluster, including a very depressed-looking Ben Murphy, and Nina Axelrod is barely recognizable, let alone memorable. So the movie has its shortcomings, but I wouldn't recommend it outright anyway. I'd instead recommend the Mystery Science Theater 3000 take on the movie for sure, as it's much more entertaining by comparison.

Nate W (ag) wrote: "Footlight Parade" wouldn't even qualify as a musical were it not for the handful of Busby Berkeley numbers at the end. They're all one-of-a-kind, but they're not worth sitting through the first hour of the film, which is just too talky and uninteresting.
