A must-see sensual cinema diamond by Ferrara, with Matthew Modine in a flawless performance!

It's too long to be completely effective though. Solid Lang film about Czech resistance during WWII

Glad I don't live in America. Well fuck this is fairly alarming stuff here

I honestly wasn't expecting much because it was the third installment to a horror series which immediately means awful

So despite a few talented names, 54 wastes its cast on a bland script, a pointless story and a lack of energy which makes it an experience too dull for its own good. Sela Ward is also boring, as are the rest of the actors whose names aren't even worth mentioning. Her over the top nature is enjoyable at times, but overall her character has no realism and so the character is just a product of Mark Christopher's weak writing. There is no realism in her character on paper and from there she has nothing to work with. Ellen Albertini Dow is funny because of her over the top nature in Studio 54, but there is no way in the world that I would believe her character to be realistic whatsoever because an 84 year old woman addicted to drugs and constantly partying out at a hot club like Studio 54 with the language like she speaks is not believable at all. Ryan Phillipe needs to prove that he can walk before he can run, and Mark Christopher hasn't told him otherwise so neither of them work well together in 54. There is no emotion in Ryan Phillipe in 54 and no sign of talent within him, and it is simply inappropriate to have him cast as the lead. He seems to have been cast strictly on the basis of his attractive qualities because his acting talents are not up to par or one of the better aspects of his character in 54, and he cannot interact with the surrounding cast members any better than he can interact with a chair. In 54, he is simply wrong for the role because his character does not have spirit and is simply a hulk. Ryan Phillipe's acting talents didn't bloom until many years later with a specific example being the 2011 courtroom drama The Lincoln Lawyer where he was good. But the rest of the cast do not impress. Although burdened by the fact that she has such little screen time, Neve Campbell's natural charisma makes her a fine addition to the cast because her charming line delivery and pretty smile makes her a treat for the eyes and the ears during her limited time on screen. Neve Campbell also does a fine job. 54 doesn't feature her best work, but in comparison to many of the other actors in the film, she is certainly one of the much better cast members. Salma Hayek is dealt a weak character in 54 because the role simply demands her to deliver her lines in an over the top manner again and again without anything else, but because of the way that she naturally does that with a sense of realism as well as the way that 54 capitalises on her vivacious sex appeal without making her go nude, she makes a good presence. The dramatic strength in the delivery of his lines comes to him naturally and he doesn't even have to try too hard to execute it, so Mike Myer's dramatic skill at least makes 54 a medium for his talents when it is wasted in many other areas. He looks nothing like any of the more famous characters he has played and he isn't even unintentionally funny due to his reputation as a comedic actor. Although I didn't feel as if his performance deserved to be nominated for an Academy Award, the strength in his performance made it weird to believe that it was actually him in the role. And since he is primarly known for his comedic work, seeing him in a dramatic role is refreshing. Mike Myers is largely a character actor with his arguably greatest character being Austin Powers, but in 54 his character acting is a little bit restrained so that the role he is playing is more realistic than many of his others. The only positive aspect of 54 really is some of the cast members, particularly Mike Myers. 54 pays no favours to writer-director Mark Christopher or to the club that inspired its story, so it just throws around a lot of negativity for a slow, long and dull period of 93 minutes which feels a hell of a lot longer than it actually is. If 54 had more use of a soundtrack and more party scenes instead of weakly written drama sequences which do nothing but showcase a lot of sub-par acting and weak scripting. It breathes no entertainment or life into 54 and simply proves just what Mark Christopher is not good for as a filmmaker, which is directing and writing. I don't get what story the plot is supposed to be covering but it simply does not do it in 54. Little actually happens in 54 and there are too many characters, and the plot moves along way too slowly. The pacing doesn't go either because for a movie about a party club, things move way too slowly and weakly in 54 for it to really be appropriate in handling the subject matter that it is supposed to be about. There isnt really any party and the script doesn't have energetic strength to it so the entire feature is weighed down by dull storytelling on behalf of director Mark Christopher who really never gets the party starting. This is a shame because the real life energy in Studio 54 was what made it such a vibrant location for people to party, but in 54 it is really hard to feel that. So it is not a film I would recommend to anyone. The story itself in 54 isn't interesting and doesn't capture the real life energy of Studio 54 in the 1970's according to other critics. I mean, the script in 54 isn't the worst, but it just is not interesting whatsoever. It is dull and gives weak language to the actors and gives them nothing to really work with. The script in 54 is pretty depressing. I don't know the historical significance of Studio 54, I merely watched the film because it was said that Mike Myers gave a performance that deserved an Academy Award nomination by many people

"Field of Dreams" is a truly fascinating story that is worthy of its three Oscar nominations (Score, Screenplay, Picture) and will surely leave you in tears during its moving finale. His scoring of this film is passive as it creates an ethereal and mystical presence rather than dominating the background. The music so beautifully encapsulates every tug at our heartstrings and this is what the world will miss the most with the loss of James Horner. " This statement has never been truer than in the final five minutes of this film. That is my primary role. When we lose a character, when somebody wins, when somebody loses, when someone disappears - at all times I'm keeping track, constantly, of what the heart is supposed to be feeling. James Horner once said of his music: "My job [is] to make sure at every turn of the film it's something the audience can feel with their heart. However, the true emotional impact of this film lies in the music. Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, and Gaby Hoffman give excellent performances but Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, and Burt Lancaster steal the spotlight, each with their own truly stunning monologue. Perhaps it is the purposeful avoidance of the question "How?", but it is easy to believe everything that happens from start to finish. I'm not sure how, but the writers manage to string together a long series of unbelievable events without us ever questioning their legitimacy. I wish that they would have spent more time developing Kevin Costner's back-story and it feels like the building of the baseball field is rushed (10 minutes into the movie), but it helps to show that this story digs deeper than Shoeless Joe Jackson. While the film's plot revolves around a baseball field and the Black Sox Scandal of 1919, the heart of this film is family. "Field of Dreams" is a classic whose audience is not limited to baseball fans

all the emotion (mostly misery) can be read on Kati Outinen's face. . . The titular character's dreary work , dull social life, yearning for companionship, the rejection from parents and suitors. A near wordless ,minimal movie which lacks the deadpan humour which is normally in Kaurismki's movies

Even the attempt at eerie music gave me a headache along with zoom in zoom out shots. Don't waste a second of your life, even when on sci-fi channel and nothing else is on. Really, really bad zombie movie
