Dagmar D (fr) wrote: I saw this film at TIFF, and enjoyed it immensely. Abigail Breslin is moving toward more mature roles, and from what I can tell it seems it will be a seamless transition for the young star. She leads her character with exceptional range and humility. Transitioning with ease from desperation to insecurity to joy. Alessando Nivola is also amazing in his role as Janie Jones estranged father. Moving from hardcore douche-bag rocker to warm and fuzzy. We like Alessandro, a lot. The soundtrack deserves a review on it's own, as it is full of life, but channels the melancholy of the title character and her father in a beautiful way. There is an acoustic feel to the music that is relieved by edgier rock and roll throughout the film. Nivola and Breslin performed all the songs themselves, which helps personalize the tunes, letting the performers channel the emotion that exists in the script. This is one of my favorite movies so far this year.
Phil N (fr) wrote: This 3D reboot of the Sex And Zen series follows Wei, newly married to Yuxiang, as he attempts to boost his sexual prowess. Having visited the Prince of Ning's pavilion (a glorified brothel), he then takes off with the androgynous Elder of Ultimate Bliss - and looks set to lose Yuxiang forever. The camp silliness of the first half is quite fun, but once the Prince seeks to punish Wei and his wife, things take a more distasteful turn and there's a surprising amount of unnecessary unpleasantness. It certainly delivers plenty of naked flesh, but is rarely titillating and the added 3D is worthless on the small screen.

Emitt B (ag) wrote: A decent Spanish movie about gay men getting wed at a mass marriage and their various crazy moms. You can tell that this film was made as a response to the then new laws for same sex marriage in Spain. Fun flim, but its no Almodovar.

Eytan D (ru) wrote: Of course, not everyone here has pitch-perfect pipes, but like "Mamma Mia" and "Grease", Woody Allen's attempt at a musical in "Everyone Says I Love You" is mighty entertaining because of its unashamed cheeriness. Sure, the script's a little uneven, but who doesn't enjoy seeing such an A-list cast having a ball. This one could have been WAY worse, but when you have Woody Allen on board as your writer/director, you know you can breathe a sigh of relief and smile at "Everyone Says I Love You".
