And Give My Love to the Swallows
This film, chronicling the last days of Czech resistance fighter Maruska Kuderikova (played by Magda Vasaryova), is based on her diaries. Though she was tortured and eventually executed by the Nazis, her diaries indicate that she was optimistic for the humanity of her captors and did not by any means hate them. Told with simple dignity, this film makes clear why Maruska became a national hero.

As usual, Allen seems to get his leg over at some point, which wasn't surprising, but the whole political storyline was all over the place. Personally, I lost interest halfway through the film and I struggled to stay awake. And why doesn't he comb his hair! Anyway, I usually prefer his earlier work to his films during the 90's, but I can't see why anyone would enjoy this film. Judging by the movies taking, it must have gone down well with audiences, which must be down to the period that the movie got released. Terrible!Round-Up:I don't know what Woody Allen was trying to attempt with this film. Most of his movies have a hidden message, but this film is completely bananas. The commentary from the news cast was also a bad attempt at humour along with the terrible training in the jungle. Basically I found this film a total waste of time and I can't find a good word to say about it.Budget: $2millionWorldwide Gross: $12millionI recommend this movie to people who are into there Woody Allen movies about a product tester who gets kidnapped by rebels. 1/10

(ca) wrote: Remarkably Poignant and Powerful!Originally written on Aug. 24, 2011--Southern society girl Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan (Emma Stone) returns from college during the Civil Rights era in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi, with dreams of being a writer. She turns her small town on its ear by choosing to interview the black women---such as Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) and Minny Jackson (Octavia Spencer)---who have spent their lives taking care of prominent white families as their maids. This remarkably poignant and powerful film exposes the ugly stain of racism that each white and black person was faced with on a daily basis during the early 1960's in the Deep South. By writing her infamous book, Skeeter makes enemies of the white women whose appalling treatment of their black maids she chronicles. I agree with what Tom Long from The Detroit News remarked about the film: "Appealing, entertaining, touching, and perhaps even a bit healing, The Help is an old-fashioned grand yarn of a film, the sort we rarely get these days."
