Lesley N (ca) wrote: Stylish gangsterish Brit film written by Geoff Thompson (based on his autobiography "WATCH MY BACK" ) about a single father who becomes a boxer and a bouncer to rebuild his self-esteem and protect his kids after he's picked on by local gang bullies. Nice supporting turns from Colin Salmon and Shaun Parkes as his fellow bouncers, plus a nostaligic 80's soundtrack, this is more lively than I expected, with as much violence as I expected.

Michael S (ru) wrote: You'd think this was a cheesy, straight-to-video clunker from the late '80s. Except this turkey was a 1999 theatrical release from 20th Century Fox with a $30 million budget. This is Z-grade schlock that MST3K would skewer with delight. (Note: The score is a total ripoff of James Horner's Star Trek themes.)

Dennis H (es) wrote: Sergeant York is a movie that I have always like and appreciated. York is the most decorated soldier in WWI, after filing to be exempted from the draft based on religious beliefs against war. If you have read anything by the real Alvin C York, you will know that he talks just like the York in the movie does. It is based off of York's personal diary, but does have many fictional components, as one would expect. But if you read about the actual account of the battle he is famous for most of what you see in the movie appears fairly true to what happened....the only part I haven't been able to confirm is capturing the second round of Germans after taking capturing the Germans from taking out the initial hill with all of the machine gun nests. York leads the small group of 7 soldiers that make it across enemy lines and captures 132 German soldiers.I told my 10 year old son about Sergeant York and when it was on this Memorial Day, we watched it together and it kept the his attention through the movie.
Wes M (ca) wrote: Fantastic. So much heart and soul was put into this samurai film, that I was caught off guard haha. Fair warning, there's barely any action in this one. Instead, LOTS of flashbacks, character development, and sorrow. A great dive into 17th century Japan's political system and ideals. Can't wait for Miike's remake!
Alexandru S (kr) wrote: Acting: 3.5/5Story: 1.5/5Perception: 1.5/5A controversial topic with a remarkable actor in the spotlight...it can't go wrong, can it? Well, most of it is hurled to the ground by a dull, detached and somewhat chaotic story line. Assange shouldn't feel threatened by this one.
