Andrew R (nl) wrote: Made in Dagenham does an excellent job at showing the story of how the Dagenham Ford women rose to fight for equal pay between men and women. Sally Hawkins does an excellent job as the lead. This film covers how Hawkins' character is involved so much in the movement that it takes a tole on her family life. It is nice to see this but all the while the film remains focused on the cause. It has depth and meaning. The only small issue is it builds up Hawkins character so much and accelerates her forward that it is strange to see that the ending scenes do not focus on her character but on the government officials. A great motion picture that does nearly everything right.

The Movie C (it) wrote: Expectations were high leading up to "Invictus" and deservedly so. The source material is compelling, the previews were nothing short of rousing, and Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon are some of the most talented men in the business. Unfortunately the finished product couldn't quite cash the check written by the aforementioned promise. The performances by the two leads are top notch but the movie suffers from an unfocused narrative that can't quite decide if it wants to be an in-depth biopic or a run-of-the-mill sports story. Freeman and Damon's performances may warrant a viewing despite these shortcomings but the overall package is a bit of a let down by Eastwood's lofty standards.

Jim G (fr) wrote: A review of the action movie "7 Seconds" staring Wesley Snipes (I rated it 60%). A good solid action movie with cross and double-cross and double-double-cross. Good layering of story such that you are not really sure who is doing what to whom until the end. Lots of action. Lots of unexpected events (all caused by the various double-crosses). Snipes gives a solid performance and continues as one of my favorite action stars. Well worth the time and popcorn.

Velma S (au) wrote: One of the funniest movies. I love Natasha Lyonne character is witty, hilarious and charming. The entire family dynamic is strange yet lovable. Marisa Tomei is fabulous as the drug addicted cousin.

Walter M (au) wrote: "Thelonious Monk - Straight, No Chaser" is an interesting and entertaining documentary about the innovative jazz musician, Thelonious Monk, and his music. Much of the footage here is from behind the scenes footage shot from an around the world tour in 1967, along with talking heads and other performance footage. I was pleased that most of the emphasis was placed on the music, rather than on Monk's personal life. I'm not an expert on jazz, but I realize there was always something about his music that set him apart from most of his contemporaries.

Bryan G (mx) wrote: I don't like this movie at all. The movie is unnecessary and the story drags. My other issues is that for a movie set two years after the first Marvin really aged. Also Wall sleep walking was a dumb sub plot and the movie as a whole is very poorly written.

GordonThe Mad Artist (br) wrote: Dated (example: Tony Franciosa in a lead role. Yeah, right) but entertaining romantic comedy written by Tennessee Williams. Jane Fonda is particularly good as a Carol Burnett Southern gal-type, in both comic delivery and slapstick. Also, some wise insights into what sustains a marriage, even though Williams didn't exactly practice what he preached here.

Anssi V (us) wrote: Yasujiro Ozu's cinematography and directing style fascinate me. The utterly unmovable camera is such a strange way to tell a story. It's almost like watching a comic book with its tight borders, except that the characters within those borders are allowed to move, enter and exit freely, yet the borders never move, as if utterly uninterested in their comings and goings. So yeah, visually this is a great movie, masterpiece even. The viewing angles change from sweeping scenery shots to extreme close-ups where the characters stare right into the camera, which at some points creates a feeling of uneasiness, but that works for the movie's favour. Plus, all the colours, all the traditional Japanese clothing, all the over-the-top facial expression on Komajuro's (Ganjiro Nakamura) face, they all come together to form a movie that's definitely nice to look at.Unfortunately the story itself is a bit boring. It's not that bad, not really, but I just couldn't get all that much into it. A group comes to town, the meet some people, some secrets are revealed, there's drama, there's hurt feelings. It's all very basic, and while the actors do manage to get into their roles and give good performances, I was left expecting just a bit more. A new twist, especially brilliant speech, something touching, but nope... nothing. So yeah, it's not a bad film. It's actually rather good, great even for those that will appreciate it for its visual style and simple, yet classic story. The latter just wasn't my cup of tea in this case, unfortunately.

Niall C (fr) wrote: Animation and comedy far ahead of its time. Only main problem was the plot, which takes time to warm up, and feels rather anti-climactic.

Petros T (nl) wrote: "Licence To Kill" is quite an engaging proposition, featuring a fine performance from Timothy Dalton, a good Benicio Del Toro in his second film role and a notably bigger part for Desmond Llewelyn's Q, who's always a joy to watch. It's possibly one of the most brutal 007 films as well - wherein Bond's now a rogue agent after revenge, thus giving the film more emotional momentum. There is some room for cheesiness too, and overall this feels like one of the lesser films, but still a good watch.
