Joe E (gb) wrote: Oh, my goodness. Where to begin? Once upon a time there was a movie named "Airport" which had a clever notion: Wouldn't it be fun to send a passenger jet filled with an all-star cast and piloted by two screen legends into the sky, play out a few mini-dramas around a cliche bomb-on-the-plane maxi-drama, and finally deliver the plane and its precious human cargo from certain disaster? They were right. It was a great idea, and it made a very good movie. It has also inspired a dreary series of clones and rip-offs over the last 40 years. Now comes without any doubt the absolute pits of this genre, the least dramatic movie that could possibly have been inspired by "Airport" or any other movie, "Airplane vs. Volcano".It's so bad, maybe you should pool your money, draw straws, and send one of the guys off to rent it so that in the future, whenever you think you're sitting through a bad movie, he could shake his head, chuckle tolerantly, and explain that you don't know what bad is. This is the kind of movie that is ridiculous from beginning to end -- title, premise, plot, acting -- especially the acting. Okay, Robin Givens and Dean Cain try their best with a laughable script; but most of the rest should be ashamed of themselves. The guy playing the standard-issue Military Officer in Charge Who Makes All the Wrong Decisions, for example; to call his performance wooden is an insult to wood.Among the many questions raised by "Airplane vs. Volcano", the easiest is: What were Givens and Cain thinking? Did they need the money that badly? The second easiest is: Why did the writers and producers think that there was enough suspense-of-disbelief in the world to permit even a single audience member to buy this ridiculous plot? Not even Givens in a skin-tight halter top can make this one worth wasting even a minute of your time.

I enjoyed it, but then i like these kinda films anyway. The sword fights were good also! Which is always a plus with me. Though i'd expect no less from director Ryuhei Kitamura. This guy loves his swords! Oh and a great little cameo from Tak Sakaguchi which i was well chuffed with!!

Matthew B (us) wrote: Agent Sands: "Are you a MEXI-CAN or a MEXI-CAN'T?". Now this is what you call a very cheesy movie. El Mariachi has retreated into a life of isolation. He is forced out of hiding when Sands, a corrupt CIA agent, recruits the reclusive hero to sabotage an assassination plot against the president of Mexico, which has been conceived by the evil cartel kingpin, Barillo. But El Mariachi also has his own reasons for returning--blood revenge. This movie is so out of control and so silly but that is what Robert Rodriguez does. The characters are okay for the most part but Johnny Depp's (Agent Sands) is by the best character in this whole film. The stunts are good but I think the villains could have been done better because there are pretty forgettable.
Zachary M (kr) wrote: Over the years, I've tried watching this movie twice. When I was a lot younger I managed through all of it and thought it was awful. So years later I wanted to see if my opinion had changed any, it hadn't. And yet, I still can't exactly pinpoint why I dislike it so much. It's not too different from the other horror slasher movies I love, and the acting is actually really good throughout most of it. So why do I dislike it so?I still don't have a definitive answer, but I have a theory. The film seems to fail to build any kind of real tension. The violence isn't an issue and the plot, which is based on a true story, is a good one to make this kind of a movie off of it. Yet nothing about it is endearing enough to make me ever care to see it in full again. Go figure.
