Sam C (gb) wrote: Enjoyed the story, but too many aspects of this film were poorly made. I would have loved better acting in the supporting roles, yet Melik Malkasian played his role surprisingly well, and overall I enjoyed his performance. The plot may have been undeveloped, yet it still managed to be good. What really killed this film was the "porno style" cinematography. Half the time it seemed as though the characters were going to throw out a painfully un-sexy line, strip, and begin to bang it out right then and there. I couldn't stand the still frames all throughout the movie no camera movement really hurt this film beyond repair. Better luck next time guys.Good story yet bad cinematography and poor supporting actors make this movie a completely optional choice, yet for some reason I would still recommend it. The main character is charmingly awkward, and painfully depressing at the same time, a cavalcade of emotions made me finish this movie through and I recommend it for when you have a whole hell of a lot of time to kill, and don't mind watching something you'll either hate, or quite possibly enjoy for 80 minutes of your life.

Danny R (mx) wrote: An absolutely brilliant film by the Louis Malle, this production is pure class and never lets up: it concerns a small group of losers and fools in Atlantic City; in the early 1980s where the glory days are gone and the old hotel casinos are being torn down to make way for the new mega hotel casinos, each one of them is pursuing their own fantasies and facing the hash dangers of the ruthless world. The late great Burt Lancaster delivers a tour-de-force performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor; he plays Lou, an aging small-time mob numbers runner who dreams of being a big-time mobster; Sally, played by wonderfully by Susan Sarandon in an Oscar nominated turn is Lou's next door neighbor who works in a casino salad bar while she trains to be a casino croupie, her dream is to work in a casino in France. Her worthless husband Dave, played superbly by Robert Joy who ran away with Sally's younger sister Chrissie has now stolen a large amount of cocaine from some very dangerous modsters in Philadelphia

Paul C (ca) wrote: Pretty dire action film which gives Van Damme equal billing but far less screen-time. Whilst JC often struggles as a leading man, Sho Kosugi pretty much drowns! Poor acting, poor script and even worse poor fight scenes - not one i will watch again in any hurry!
Matt C (kr) wrote: Difficult to quantify this one, it drags on a lot, especially in the first half, at nearly two hours this is way too long for a kids movie. My son was wriggling around frequently and I found myself drifting in and out. It has moments though where it's really funny and really beautiful and moving. The floating lanterns scene is probably one of the most impressive in a Disney film, my son was literally on his feet saying 'WOW!'. A mixed bag then.
