Some of the special/practical effects are really cool and are diffidently one of the highlights, but quite of few of them are very outdated. Leguizamo's character and overacting can be entertaining but the rest of the actor are either trying way too hard or not hard enough. And the story, good luck trying to follow it.

John C (fr) wrote: A great sword and planet movie based on the novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. It's poor performance at the box office is likely due to bad marketing, and because easily influenced critics jumped on the bashing bandwagon. I even saw some brain-dead critic complaining that it copied Star Wars (are you kidding me?!?!).

Art S (kr) wrote: Engaging doco (with a higher quality of talking heads than usual) that tries to show us the personal side of Kubrick, apparently to counteract some stories in the press that he was a creepy recluse. He does appear to be a loving family man, but no one is able to counteract the impression that he was an obsessive work-a-holic and taskmaster. However, that's about all that this film does, aside from moving briskly through the 13 features that Kubrick directed with clips and some commentary. Unfortunately, the commentary lacks depth of analysis, making this better for the Kubrick novice and less substantive for those who want to think a bit more about his films (rather than his personality).

Kim E (de) wrote: The man, the moustache, the attitude. This classic flick is not bad at all. While teeming with politically incorrect ethnic stereotypes of all kinds, the stunning aerial shots and stunts make up for it, and the plot is not too bad either.

Robert E (nl) wrote: Well known film noir starring John Payne of Miracle on 34th Street fame. Camera and lighting typical of Hollywood classic style, with a better than average performance by TV regular Coleen Gray. Check out "99 River Street" to see John Payne's best.

Alexei G (es) wrote: This film actually has a nice presentation of the story of Buddha's life between his birth and the day he attained enlightenment, though I find one of the central premises, a Tibetan Lama being reincarnated in the body of a young boy from Seattle, hard to believe, and I don't think I can shake off that disbelief. In general, the Seattle setting somewhat irks me, though I like how the director uses the opportunity to evoke childhood fantasy (things like "Lama Thunderbolt" and "Land of the Thunder Dragon" should evoke a child's imagination easily).
