A salt storehouse near the sea may be haunted. A penniless ex-con dies a gristly death in a house he can ill afford. The detectives assigned the case are Min, newly reinstated after a suspension, and Lee, a new transfer from forensics. Min has nightmares: a sexual assault that haunts her. She and Lee work well together, but soon two more deaths occur - each mysteriously poisoned, both friends of the ex-con. A fourth friend, a newly married doctor, is a suspect. But what has all this to do with the salt storehouse, a death ten years ago, and a missing girl? Can Min and Lee get to the bottom of it, or is the supernatural beyond a cop's reach?

(ag) wrote: Apart from some snappy action, there really isn't much to praise here. It's pretty much just shoot, get bitten, shoot, die all the way through, without the mysterious intrigue of the first one. A very messy piece of work.
(au) wrote: Perfectly acted, gently dramatic study of the highs and lows of real-life, with a deeply personal script and some beautifully directed ensemble scenes. One of the few perfect British films to come out of the late 90's.
(kr) wrote: Funny and one to watch over and over as you miss so many of the little backhanded jokes. Loved it when it first came out, still love it now. This light hearted piss take of the beauty industry is hilarious from start to finish :)
(ag) wrote: An uneven romantic comedy/thriller that features absolutely no chemistry between the leads, bad dialogue, and a horrible plot. Other than that........

Theremin's instrument struggle to become accepted by the musical establishment was cut short by his disappearance for over twenty years. His creation became Hollywood camp in the forties and fifties, yet were also the seeds of modern synthesizers in the sixties and seventies. The tale is well buttressed by period footage, interviews with Moog and Wilson, evocative performances by virtuoso Clara Rockmore, and film of Theremin himself in his nineties. Not for everyone, but an invaluable document of a form and era long gone.

(ag) wrote: This is the movie that predicted the modern news cycle. We're still "mad as hell and we're not going to take it any more!" If you watch this movie - remember that it was originally written by Paddy Chayefsky about what was possibly to come. How eery.
(nl) wrote: Very awesome movie. Tons of gun-blazing action and even some hand-to-hand as well. Lots of cursing, but it's OK. A rip-roaring movie never to forget.
(it) wrote: strange, amusing and slightly disturbing at times.
(nl) wrote: Yes. It's that good.
(mx) wrote: John Carpenter's angry, biting commentary on American society, capitalism and consumerism is every bit as strong, powerful and poignant today as it was when it was first released. Everyman Nada Rowdy Roddy Piper is stuck wandering the streets, looking for a job. He's trapped in a society where the rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer. The citizens lulled into a state of complacency by television, the veil is lifted from his eyes when he stumbles across a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the truth. Subliminal messages surround us, and evil aliens (aka The Rich) are preying upon the everyday citizens of Earth. Angered, he takes up arms and begins a one man battle for the fate of mankind. The film is very fun, very silly, and very awesome. It's definitely one of Carpenter's better films, though it's not quite as great as In The Mouth of Madness, Halloween, The Thing, or The Fog.
(ag) wrote: Pretty Good = 3.5/5Definitely my second favorite Underworld film yet. Not only is this a genuinely entertaining film itself, it makes the first film even better, making it a very affective and worth while prequel.
