Phoebe Titus is a tough, swaggering pioneer woman, but her ways become decidedly more feminine when she falls for California bound Peter Muncie. But Peter won't be distracted from his journey and Phoebe is left alone and plenty busy with villains Jefferson Carteret and Lazarus Ward plotting at every turn to destroy her freighting company. She has not seen the last of Peter, however.

She is about to lose it because she owes money to the bank and needs to find a quick way to come up with the cash. Street racing provides the solution and there's some great stunts and fast cars. Very sexy movie with great scenery!

Jens T (ru) wrote: Hector Babenco's Kiss of the Spider Woman tells the story that is set in a Latin-American dictatorship where the underground freedom fighter Valentin Arregui (Raul Julia) who's been thrown in jail. He shares a cell with the homo sexual Luis Molina (William Hurt) who loves to tell Valentin about a film he once saw, which actually was a German Nazi propaganda film. But that doesn't bother Luis, what he loves is the soap opera plot about forbidden love, between a German officer and a french freedom fighter. while Valentine is offended by his movie. By giving you the inciting incident I would also give away the story. All I can say here is that Luis' movie is a mirror of what is going to happen.Kiss of the Spider Woman is a good prison film, with two extraordinary main characters, which dialogue is never boring. But the movie on the other hands seems to loose our attention in the middle of the film. I also liked the the two plot lines in general. So artistic and so creative. And the chemistry between the main characters, despite their differences their political differences and their sexuality, is just perfect. They are in this together. William Hurt truly deserved that Oscar, because he was able to create such a three-dimensional vivid character. Thumbs up.

Eric H (it) wrote: Burt Reynolds came to a point in his career where he appeared to just be going thru the motions. He'd show up, party with his friends on film, and take home a big paycheck. It didn't seem to matter to him that the product he was representing was pure crap. If the thought of Burt hamming it up with Jim Nabors and dressing like a chicken sounds funny then this is your movie. Otherwise pick almost any other film comedy and it won't be any worse.

John R (fr) wrote: 160624: I'm sure in 1980, on a big screen, this film would've offered a bit more in the way of fear. Now however, 36 years later, she's just a bit tepid. On one occasion I got kind of a start but otherwise this film is more of a mystery. Weak title. One thing I don't understand is why Senator Joe (Melvyn Douglas) had to pay for the sins of his father? Unless he was aware of his father's evil act, he was innocent. Oh well. Good to see John Colicos. 3 at the most. Next.
