ShawnRay M (gb) wrote: For those who've known me for longer than 10 minutes it quickly becomes pretty apparent that I'm a huge Lovecraft fan. Even before I discovered his stories, my own writings already had a natural kinship with his, so, needless to say, when I did discover him his stories became a large influence on me. I love the epic scope of his mythology. I really wish I could have read his stories as they came out, though, a lot of those stories didn't see publication until after he died. Told through pictures and interviews with top names in contemporary horror and sci-fi-such as Neil Gaiman, Peter Straub, John Carpenter, Ramsey Campbell, Guillermo del Toro, and Stuart Gordon-this documentary takes us through Lovecraft's childhood to his death, through his inspirations for writing, his brief marriage, and the genesis of his Cthulhu Mythos. It's incredible how many people were inspired by Lovecraft, so much that if you see anything in horror and sci-fi nowadays it probably has its roots in Lovecraft. A very interesting documentary.

A mysterious local--in this case, former owner (Stephen Dorff) turns out to have a shady side and tries to frame the honest father for the creepy crimes he commits. A little similar to a later picture starring Kristen Stewart, The Messengers, but lacking the supernatural element, Cold Creek Manor suffers from below-average performances, unsurprising plot twists and some unnecessary redneck-inspired trouble.

charles s (ca) wrote: Candyman is one of the scariest movies that I've seen in a while, Its haunting, moody and poetic. This movie is about a woman who is doing research on urban legends, when she finds out about candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand who haunts caprini green, she doesn't believe he exists and she soon convinces everyone who once believed he was real that he is just a myth. But candyman shows up and haunts her, killing people and leaving her at the scene to make it appear that she is the one killing. Candyman wants helen to let him kill her so she can die with him and become an urban legend also. this film is very interesting, this isn't an average horror movie, its a lot deeper, its also kind of a romance that the killer has with the main protagonist (Virginia Madsen) and whats great about this film is that its something new, its an interesting take on urban legends and if you haven't given candyman a watch, and you are a horror fan, then give it a watch. The only flaws are that the film starts off kinda slow. But thats just a little nit pick, this is a chilling tale that is both interesting and scary.

Paul D (es) wrote: Not a bad thriller, but the story is a little one-dimensional given it's simply a modern revenge thriller.
