David L (it) wrote: Young Adult does have a very disappointing third act, but everything else that came before it is great with superb characters, excellent issues well explored here, some very dramatic scenes and some emotional ones as well. It also has a terrific performance from Charlize Theron and it is such a good, realistic dramedy.

David H (br) wrote: Underneath its Japanese-kitsch exterior, this film is - weirdly - about how elements of the ancient Graco-Roman mystery religions have survived in modern-day pop culture. The baddy, Kentauros, and his friend are really Canis Major and Canis Minor, Orion's hunting dogs, Tatla is Demeter, and the scene where Tamala is resurrected in the advertising billboards would have been worthy of Alejandro Jodorowsky. It isn't really an anime and the plot is a distraction from what the film is getting across. Tamala is nonchalantly destructive from start to finish, a rare example of a female anti-heroine - as if Hello Kitty had grown up and developed borderline personality disorder - and it's worth watching this just for her one-liners. The DVD cover has a huge 'kegadoru' subtext that most will miss. Anyway, I liked this so much I imported everything t.o.L. ever released from Japan.

Mark V (jp) wrote: It's an interesting look into the world of professional wrestling. I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of promoter and wrestler and see the different view they had. The Jake the Snake bits were intense. One problem I had was misplacement of "Stand By Me" music. It felt awkward. Also, the documentary didn't feel like it had a strong conclusion, bit of a problem on the narrators part. Overall, good watch.
Steve B (de) wrote: What makes this a pretty good erotic thriller for me is the great use of soundtrack, featuring moody and mellow seductive tunes from 'Enigma' and a classic called 'Unfinished Symphony' by 'Massive Attack'. The movie also keeps you guessing and keeps giving the viewer more important plot information as it progresses, making you bounce between characters and who to trust. One of my favourite scenes is the restaurant scene where Baldwin and Stone swap glances and play mind games with each other, fanning the fire for the inferno ahead. The rest of the plot is quite strange, weird and taboo.

Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds are great together"DVD Movie Review: Mississippi GrindDate Viewed: October 19 2015Written and Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Half Nelson, Sugar and It's Kind of a Funny Story)Starring: Ben Mendelsohn, Ryan Reynolds,Sienna Miller, Alfre Woodard, Jane McNeill,Analeigh Tipton, Jayson Warner Smith, Robin Weigert, Marshall Chapman, Indigo and James Toback.Ryan Reynolds has finally hit a blackjack after a series of big flops (Green Lantern, Self/Less and R.I.P.D.). "Mississippi Grind" is a compelling gambling movie about the friendship between a talented poker player who's on a losing streak and a charismatic young man who enters into his life. "Mississippi Grind" is a more insightful gambling movie than last year's "Gambler" remake. Thanks to the writing and directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Reynolds along with co-star Ben Mendelsohn have great chemistry together.Gerry (Mendelsohn) maybe a expert poker player but he lost his wife and kid due to his gambling habit and he is on a losing streak. However, a young traveler has come to save his fortunes. Curtis (Reynolds) is a talented poker player as well but he can actually win a game compared to Gerry. The two form a friendship and they hit the road together hoping to change Gerry's luck. Of course, the duo have their highs and lows but the bond between them is so good. Boden and Fleck have not exactly made a great movie but it is a great showcase for both Mendelsohn and Reynolds. The movie also stars Sienna Miller as Curtis' on again/off again girlfriend and Alfre Woodard as the tough bookie who Gerry needs to pay off.Boden and Fleck are known for small indie movies like "Half Nelson" (which earned Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination) and the baseball drama "Sugar". Ben Mendelsohn and Ryan Reynolds are terrific in this engaging character study.
