Madeline M (ru) wrote: SO silly, and (odd as it sounds) it needed more dancing and the costumes are really 90s in the worst way. But, all the same, a great deal of fun.

angie p (it) wrote: Love this movie. It's a Romeo and Juliet type of story set in Poland. My favorite scenes were when Christine Kauffman was reading under a tree and Tony Curtis was staring at her, when they met in secret at the market and went dancing by some lake, when Christine's brother caught her staring out of her balcony at Tony Curtis, the part when Tony Curtis was drunk and almost made out with a gypsey girl, but he saw Christine's face over the gypsey girl. I liked how you can still see the gypsey girls face but Christine's face is transparent and covering the other girls face. That seemed really emotional and I cried. It was so sad they kept using her transparent smiling face over the girl, the castle, and mostly when he was thinking about her. Made me feel like I was Tony Curtis wondering if I'll ever be reunited with my true love. The fact that he was always thinking about her and how he was forced to trade sides so Christine wouldn't be burned at the stake. The ending made me cry for hours. It was so sad. To be next to eachother finally again when the war was over, and Tony (Andrew) was already dead. And how Yul Brynner (Taras Bulba), sees Christine go over to Tony's dead body and mourn. He was probably thinking so this is the girl he was so crazy about. Sad that the last time they were together was when they got caught by the Poles and they were going to burn her. And he spent all that time thinking about her and never saw her again. Not even as he was dying, she came after he died.

There they encounter humans, resulting in a titanic struggle.Conventional, dull action-fantasy drama. A basic linear plot, filledwith sword-and-sorcery action scenes and expensive graphics. Charactershave no depth, limiting the audience engagement, and the movie feelsmuch like any other other fantasy movie, that is, much style, littlesubstance. Decent cast - Travis Fimmel (of Vikings fame), Paula Patton, BenFoster, Dominic Cooper - but wasted on this empty movie. Consideringthe wooden acting required for this, I don't think this is going tohelp their CVs...Saddest thing about this movie is that it is directed by Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son). After a great debut with Moon and a decent follow-up with Source Code, he now resorts to directing this crap. The money must have been really good because he certainly wasn't doing it for the awards or critical acclaim...
