(mx) wrote: Nicely done! This documentary is less focused on the nutritional benefits to veganism and more focused on the casual disregard for animal life in agribusiness and the huge carbon footprint of agribusiness. The documentary includes humor, lightness and a human element as she focuses on the people going vegan. She has a passing mention to the affect of agribusiness on the people who work within those places (but Fast Food Nation mentions that, I think I remember). We enjoyed it, found it informative and are going to suggest it to other people. Good food for conversation.

(mx) wrote: When thinking of movies about cancer, I immediately think of 50/50. Although this film does not stack up to the masterpiece that was 50/50,it didn't need to have. Norman deals with a boy (Dan Byrd) who's father (Richard Jenkins) is dying of cancer. Norman is bullied at school, so he decides to use the pity card by telling everyone that he has cancer. Throughout the movie, we are supposed to grow very close to these characters, and as usual we do, however once the scenes get more serious, we are supposed to have some emotions for the events that transpire. Unfortunately, I, myself, do not find myself tearing up at the situation. This is due to the fact that there is too much going on in the film for us to truly follow, wholeheartedly, one subject. Now, this does not mean that this movie doesn't pack a lot of emotion, because there will be some moments that will leave you wanting to cry. The scenes between Norman and his father feel so real. Also, the scenes between Norman and Emily. You can't help, but smile, every time one of them laughs or says something corny. It adds a sense of realism that other touching movies, don't seem to have. One final thing that makes this movie a truly good film, is the ending. The ending comes right at you, and makes no excuses. It goes by in a flash, but you will definitely feel it. The film decides to not make us feel sorry, but instead feel happy that change within the character is occurring. When an ending has that much impact it really makes me love a film even more. Overall, it doesn't pack as much emotional depth as it could have, but within the great performances, and the sense of realism, you will find yourself thoroughly enjoyed. Don't miss out on the ending though, it comes by in flash, just like life does. In any second something can change you, and you have to be ready for it, even though you may not see it coming.

(mx) wrote: A football player and his dad go to a little vacation to Romania where there he has a palm reader tell him he is never going to die and that he is a werewolf. He tries to juggle his life with his problem and tries to figure out how to get out of it. This is very similar to Teen Wolf but this lacks a good story and plot with at times some bad acting. But one thing good about it is that you will find yourself laughing a good few times through the movie. Although the movie is dumb it does have some good laughs. It's a cheesy campy horror/ comedy that's worth it for some good laughs.

Elke Summer and Sylva Koscina are great as the beautiful and incredibly deadly woman who snuff out their victims with perverse pleasure. Richard Johnson is a descent leadind man doing his best to look the Connery part. It took me a bit to get used to the nephew sidekick but eventually he became part of the fun. Campy spy film thats better than most of its time.

(mx) wrote: Essential Bela Lugosi. The plot isn't anything to write home about, being very much a product of the early 1930s in terms of its approach and execution (i.e. it moves at an almost lethally slow clip), but the atmosphere is absolutely first rate, as is Lugosi. It's also interesting when viewed in the context of what modern audiences would define a "zombie movie" as being; it's quite a bit different from what that phrase currently implies in the post NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD or 28 DAYS LATER cinematic landscape, but it's probably more true (relatively speaking) to the real world mythology of Caribbean zombie lore. In any case, if you can overlook the plodding structure, there are good things to be found in this one.
