stefano l (us) wrote: When it starts, you nearly have the idea the film is going to be a muslim remake of "Meet the parents". For our luck, in the end it's not, and also if it is a light and enjoyable comedy, deal with some interesting points.

Michael K (ru) wrote: Wonderful Town takes on romance and natural disasters - an improbable thematic pairing if ever there was one - and returns with better results in one hand than the other. Both of the leading performances are just subtle enough, and the dialogue sufficiently charming, to carry the love story; the settings are beautifully conceived, and most of the shots deftly executed. The tsunami, on the other hand, has little relevance here except to darken the mood - at least until an ill-advised plot twist comes from way out in left field and shatters the contemplative air.

Though it's common enough to make an 'interconnected paths in a metropolis' film - there must have been hundreds already since Altman's original Short Cuts - this is still a refreshingly new for its treatment of love in late modern India. A very sensual scene with Shilpa Shetty and Shiney Ahuja (I can't believe I would ever write that). I confess I can excuse the neon-lit scene and all the cliched overtones because Shilpa's flat tummy made up for a lot. Everything is great, sure - but can Indian directors please tone down the use of a background score? Great background music never becomes noticeable, just sets the tone. The film and the actors are key, Anurag Basu, not the huge, swelling chords you've poured all over each dramatic scene. Otherwise, good job.

Robbie M (ca) wrote: Worth seeing just to laugh at (barely), Busey gives a quirky almost comical performance as a psycho seriff, jeff fahey gets laid and does some lame martial arts (he also wrote it), I'm still not sure why michael worth is second billed on there, and jenya lano never shows us the goods- despite seemingly random gratuitous nudity early on in the movie and her character having an entire scene shooting outlaws naked. That just about sums it up.

Barry B (ca) wrote: I love this movie. There is nothing quite like old war buddies getting together to avenge a friend. This film is pretty good considering its not a Hollywood blockbuster and has a great cast including Christopher Walken (King Of New York), Maria Conchita Alonso (Predator 2) and Steve James (Delta Force, American Ninja). Worth a watch if you love those kick ass action movies of the 80's, early 90's.

Jonathan M (ag) wrote: I found this to be a great military movie. Jimmy Stewart gives a great performance as usual. There were some slow moments to the film, but it was really good overall in my opinion. If you like military movies, I'd recommend this one.
