Allan C (nl) wrote: I remember quite liking this film in the theater when it first came out. I'm not sure I appreciated at the time that this was writer/director Mel Brooks few outings not doing a parody film and telling an original story (though Brooks did produce a number of less goofy of films like "The Elephant Man," "Francis" and "My Favorite Year"). Here Brooks tells the story of a millionaire taking a bet that he can't survive on the street for thirty days. Brooks takes the bet and proceeds to have a series of comic set pieces, some romance, and some surprisingly sincere moments. Watching this film now, I can really this this film as an old style Preston Sturges type of comedy that can have broad slapstick in one scene and some sincere drama the next. Few films can pull that off and this film does a pretty good job of this. The cast, which includes Lesley Ann Warren, Jeffrey Tambor, Stuart Pankin, Rudy De Luca, Billy Barty and Brian Thompson, get a lot of credit for making it all work. This film is not as classic as say "Young Frankenstein" or "The Producers" though this film may represent the most modern of his comedies. But like I said earlier, this film is in many ways very old fashioned, so I'm not sure it will actually appear to all audiences.

Francisco L (ru) wrote: Adventureland is another cliched and predictable movie that is considered a comedy, when it doesn't have any humour, but instead that drowns us in a boring story with a lot of apathetic performances by Kristen Stewart and that doesn't adventure to hide its predictable and stereotyped narrative.

Taking in an additional $98,321,000 the movie grossed a worldwide total of $142,940,100As Meet Joe Black was one of the few films showing the first trailer for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, it was reported that droves of Star Wars fans bought tickets for the film, only to leave after the trailer showed. Most of William Parrish's country mansion scenes were shot at the Aldrich Mansion. The place where Susan (Claire Forlani) and Joe Black (Brad Pitt) first meet is Broadway Restaurant, at 2664 Broadway and West 101st Street, Manhattan.Critical responseThe film received mainly mixed reviews by critics. Siskel and Ebert gave it "Two Thumbs Up", with Ebert adding "there's so much that's fine in this movie". The film has a 51% "Rotten" response from Rotten Tomatoes, with the site's consensus calling the film "Glacially slow, [and] uneventful." Anthony Hopkins was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actor and Claire Forlani was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, the film also earned a Razzie Award nomination for Worst Remake or Sequel.Edited versionA two-hour version was made to show on television and airline flights, by cutting most of the plotline involving the Hopkins character's business. As Brest derided this edit of his film and disowned it, the director's credit was changed to the Hollywood pseudonym Alan Smithee.I think that Claire forlani (from the brilliant cult classics 1995 Mallrats Brandi Svenning), was brilliant as the love interest of brad pitt throughout this movie as she was really good throughout this movie......I think that this is such an enjoyable movie 2 watch, with a great cast throughout this movie......
Scott M (ru) wrote: Well this film wasn't the best at all. It had great action which looked amazing and a decent cast but the story was weak and didn't keep my interested. I wasn't bothered what happened throughout.
Scott W (es) wrote: Stretches credibility, even for Argento, and lacks the style of his earlier movies. There are memorable horror elements, a vat full of body parts and maggots, Donald Pleasence skewered to death while on a stairlift and a few jumps, but overall a preposterous mess.
