Gabriela F (ru) wrote: Loved this film! ++CAUTION++ This is not a Hollywood production. This is a foreign film, meaning things won't be spoon fed to you, you will have to THINK on your own and make your own interpretations. You might even have to think a little after the movie is over. I've seen it twice myself and each time interpreted things differently, especially in reference to Marta.I greatly recommend it... it is very well shot. The movie circles around three characters... Jacobo, who was left to care for his dying mother and is filled with resentment for his more successful brother, his brother who lives in Brazil, and Marta (Jacobo's loyal employee). When Jacobo's brother announces his visit, he asks Marta to pretend to be his wife in an attempt to show some sort of accomplishment to his brother. Things don't really work as planned... While Marta dares to dream about a different life, Jacobo is too scared of life to change his attitude.
Bruce B (ag) wrote: This Movie From Kino Video was part of the Toronto International Film Festival, Its a strange movie as many are from Kino Video. A man is hired to survey the castle but is given the run around and not allowed on Castle grounds. I for one found it boring and senseless. But worth more then 1 star so I gave it 1 1/2 stars. Don't waste your time like I did.

Michael G (mx) wrote: Nick Ray's direction shines when Knock on Any Door isn't wallowing in its own mediocrity, heavy-handed social commentary and dull performances. Bogart and Macready aside, of course. Bogart plays an attorney who tries to save John Derek (playing an Italian) from a murder rap. The story follows Derek's character more than it showcases Bogart's. If you watch this movie you'll quickly understand why it's not a must-see Bogart movie. If you're looking for a much better pairing of Bogart and Ray you'll do well to watch In a Lonely Place.
Andrea M (it) wrote: Was kind of expecting more out of it, but I enjoyed the sense of conflict and the feeling of longing they had for time lost. However, I didn't like how it felt so shallow at the beginning after where they left off in the last film...was a bit odd to me. Felt it could have gone deeper.
Rainer K (fr) wrote: Feel-Good-Movie-Alert!No, seriously, I finished the film some hours ago and still feel sick when I look back to the experience. It's devastating, and thoroughly unenjoyable to see a young man without any limbs, eyes, teeth or ears (thankfully, you don't actually get to see him, but only under bandages and sheets) suffer. He can't interact with anyone around him and can merely sense what's going on around him, and retreats into a world of dreams and memories (although it's hard for him to distinguish if he's awake or sleeping). He recalls his last days with his sweetheart back at home, his childhood and his war memories and discusses faith with some kind of Jesus Christ incarnation.Johnny Got His Gun combines the depressive morality of All Quiet on the Western Front with the devastating personal drama of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. If you're able to suffer through this almost unbearable movie you'll be rewarded with a new cinematic shock experience you won't find in the near future. But that's exactly my main point of criticism as well. I have the feeling, that the film is too harsh and too brutal at moments. I guess only few can watch this film sincerely without being distracted from disgust, thus the film takes away some of its impact by itself.Anyways, this is one of the most cruel and most effective anti-war films I've ever seen (although it hardly features any fight scenes) and as long as you don't have a weak stomach, I can only recommend you watching it.
