There is some solid story-telling and directing here, and I am so proud of such accomplishments in a Chinese film - it is sadly, a rarity. The film could have prevented losing its audience with its length by trimming the slightly-out-of-place interaction between its Korean star and Donnie Yen, but I suppose they wanted to milk their Korean princess for all she was worth. A good deal of more-than-decent acting, which is a feat considering the lead cast size! Though nobody had as much magnetism as Donnie Yen or Leon Lai (a close second), especially in the fight scenes. I think the corridor fight of the final duel between Yen and the baddie is going on my list of top fight scenes!

Where the majority of people who view this will only see grotesque disturbances shoved under their nose for the sake of pretension, those few who share my vein will see the world as projected by the dusty cracked lenses of Harmony Korine who, shooting all of this in his home town with people he knew or approached on the street, gives off an impression of the world as he witnessed growing up without any refrain or filter.
